Image Crop Issues
Generally the crop tool is very poor in behaviour. Moving the image within the crop frame is not smooth and it doesn't snap to the frame, making it very difficult not to cut of parts of the image one doesn't want to cut off. But that's not my main concern, albeit a fix would be great.
What riles me is that within Storyline, the image looks perfect. Only when you preview or publish, you see edges on your images where the crop wasn't done perfectly. See images attached.
Would be great if the handling of the tool could be improved, but if that's too difficult, at least let us see the final crop while working in storyline, without the need to preview/publish first and then adjust the crop.

This is still definitely an issue. The issue is not that Storyline puts a black border on all images, even if cropped correctly - the issue is, as Niels pointed out, that cropping in Storyline is not smooth and there's no way to lock the image to the crop boundaries, so if you're just trying to slide an image to the right, let's say, to get what you want in the crop boundaries, the image moves all over the place. And as Niels said, you can't tell if you've got it perfectly cropped on the edges until you preview the slide. Then even if you think you got it right, once you preview you see that thin annoying black line and have to go back and blindly try again - it's just a game of trial and error until you can get it right. Honestly, just allowing us to use a key on the keyboard to lock the image to the crop edges would be a huge help. This is something that my entire team complains about.
For reference, I am on the latest version of Storyline.

Thank you for sharing each of those screenshots with us! We haven't logged this as a bug, but I've tested this in Storyline 360 (Build 3.55.25954.0) and noticing the black outline as well. I've created a quick 3-minute tutorial explaining the steps I've taken and a workaround.
The workaround is to have the image cover the bottom part of the slide and slightly below the outside of the slide stage. I'll keep you updated in this discussion on the progress of this bug fix.

I just wanted to share that we are no longer seeing the bug reported where a black border is added to an image when cropped using the latest build of Storyline (3.61.27106.0).

I have attached a video of the issues I'm seeing. Near the end of the video, I'm using the image dialog box to adjust the image dimensions, but it wasn't captured on the screen for some reason. Sorry about that. Please let me know if you need any additional information.

I've recorded this Peek to show you the results when testing it out on my end.
I was not experiencing the lag issue we saw in your recording, however, I was able to reproduce the black borders occupying the blank space left after cropping an image.
