Images Showing as Red X When Importing into Existing Storyline Projects – Issue Since July 28, 2026
Hi everyone,
I’m experiencing an issue with Articulate Storyline that appears to have started with the July 28, 2026 version and continues in later versions.
When importing content from a Story (.story) or Story Template (.storytemplate) file into an existing/ongoing Storyline project, some images are not displayed correctly. Instead, they appear as a red X / missing image placeholder.
What I’ve found so far:
- The issue occurs when importing a Story or Story Template into an existing Storyline project.
- The same file can be imported successfully into a new, blank Storyline project, with the images displaying correctly.
- Only some images are affected; other images import normally.
- The affected images appear as a red X and cannot be displayed.
- The issue was not present in an earlier Storyline version.
- The problem appears to have started from the July 28, 2026 version onward.
- Creating a new scene or blank slide within the existing project does not resolve the issue.
- Inserting the image directly into the existing project is still possible; the problem specifically occurs with the imported content.
Has anyone else encountered this issue in Storyline versions released from July 28, 2026 onward?
Could this be related to a change in how Storyline handles or references image assets when importing Stories or Story Templates into an existing project?
Is there a known workaround or fix?
Any advice or confirmation that others are experiencing the same issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Since this was reported weeks ago, presumably the fix is already complete and being tested internally at Articulate.
