Imported .mp4 files to Rise won't play

I have imported some short .mp4 video files into Rise courses (typical file size around 35MB). I'm publishing to a 1.2 SCORM format and these are then hosted on OLM platform.

The courses playback fine to learners if accessed via laptop or using iPads connected to wifi. However, if the iPads are using 4G, the video content will not play.

Similar courses created 3 years ago are streaming without a problem on the iPads.

Any suggestions?

  • Hi JuliaSalmon-cf0 it would be worth checking the bitrate of the MP4 files to determine if they can be compressed further. The file size doesn't really give an indication of this, for example you could have:

    • 1 minute video, 35mb, 4.89 Mbps, high quality video and audio, would require stable broadband internet.
    • 5 minute video, 35mb, 0.98 Mbps, lower quality video and audio, should playback without issue on most stable internet connections.

These are extreme examples just to illustrate that the bitrate (per second) is the important number to look at when compressing video for the internet.

When using services such as Vimeo/YouTube (and many others), they are able to deliver video dynamically, matching the users internet connection speed and device, whereas the video that Rise compresses is a single MP4 for all users/devices.
