Issues with tab order acting inconsistently
Hi there,
I have been testing my course with NVDA and am coming across inconsistent results.
I have set up the focus order correctly and I have also set up alt text and used the text styles as I have done many times in the past without this issue. Now when I publish the course it reads some slides from the bottom up meaning it doesn't go straight to the heading 1. I'll click next, land on the new page and the screen reader will be silent. If I use the arrow down it says 'blank'. Using arrow up takes you incrementally back up the page in reverse order. I have to use 'Shift+H' until I get to heading one and then use the arrows to move down the page.
The odd thing is this doesn't happen consistently. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. If I publish the slide to the web, that slide will always work as it should however if it appears in the middle of the published scene it doesn't always work.
I am using the modern player but seems to happen with the classic player as well.
Any help gratefully received.

I am also having an issue which I've experienced in the past and was a known bug that was meant to have been fixed. It may have something to do with the above issue.
In a quiz question, I answer the question correctly or incorrectly and the feedback is shown but when I use the down arrow NVDA starts reading half way through the paragraph. I have ti use arrow up to get to the top of the feedback layer. See my attached image
Hello Sasha!
Sorry, you're running into these issues with alt text in Storyline 360! I saw that you've submitted a case with our Support Engineers, and my teammate, Darrell, is working with you directly. We'll continue working in your support case so that all the information is in one spot. I'll be following along to see what the solution is!

Hi,
What was the resolution here? My organization is having the same issue.

Hi Susan, I have done a lot of testing around this and found these things can make a difference:
1. Selecting 'Prevent User from clicking on base layer' in the slide layer settings for causes the screen reader to skip the first line of text or the first item on the layer. This is apparently a known bug. The suggestion is to put an invisible item as the first thing on the layer although I don't think this is ideal for when the bug is fixed we'll have to g back through and remove the invisible item.
2. Make sure all the things you want read out by the screen reader appear at the beginning of the timeline on the slide and the master slide
3. If using the built in player and you hide the submit button and use a custom one instead, the feedback won't be read out
Hope that helps

Hi everyone,
I just thought I'd add a comment here about a fix for this issue. A new feature has been added where you can change the properties of a Layer so it 'Behaves as' a Dialogue instead of a Layer
https://articulate.com/support/article/Storyline-360-Dialog-Layers
I changed the feedback master so all layers appear as dialogues and then adjusted the transparency to 100% and it works a treat.
Hi Sasha,
Thanks so much for sharing what worked on your end! I'm sure other community members will find this helpful.
Have a great day ahead!
