Khmer Characters aren't Displaying Properly when the Course is Previewed/Published -- 2025

Hey - I did a little search and noticed this issue was brought up 4-5 years ago...but hasn't seemed to have been resolved yet? Certain Khmer characters look correct on a slide, but as soon as you preview or publish them, they get moved or mashed together. I'm using STATIC versions of Noto Sans Khmer...I have also tried a number of other Khmer fonts and it hasn't seemed to matter. Anyone else run into this still or have a workaround that doesn't replacing the text with static images?

  • Hi PeterB_2!

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble, working with Khmer font in Storyline!

I can confirm we have this behavior logged as a bug in Storyline. This bug causes Khmer font characters to not render properly when a course is previewed/published.

In the meantime, as a workaround, we suggest disabling the Modern Text feature by going to Design > Fonts > Unchecking 'Modern Text'. However, this workaround only applies for certain Khmer characters, as reported by users.

I've included your voice in the bug report we are currently tracking. We'll be sure to notify you as soon as a fix is in place.

Sorry if this has been slowing you down!

Hey StevenBenassi - I don't see this option in Storyline - does it require a certain version of storyline to be available?

        Hi PeterB_2

Thank you for following up. I'm sorry for any confusion!

The workaround solution I offered in my previous reply, is no longer valid in Storyline 360. New projects do not support the Classic Text option, and use Modern Text Rendering by default. There's no longer an option to disable that feature for new projects.

        My apologies!
