Layer is hiding objects on base layer - even when I don't want to

Hello!

I started my first new project after updating Storyline and I noticed that there is something wrong with slide layers and slide layer properties. I want layer(s) not to hide objects on base layer. So I went to Slide Layer Properties and un-selected "Hide objects on base layer" from Visibility settings, see the screenshot below. Text continues after picture...

After doing this, I went to Preview this slide and for some reason this layer is still hiding the base layer. What should I do? I haven't had this problem before when changing Slide Layer Visibility settings. Thanks for your help! :)

  • Hi Diane,

I'm so glad that this conversation was able to help you. I appreciate you chiming in to share.

I'd be happy to take a look to see if we can track down the why. Were you using a template from the content library?

I have glitchy behavior around this aspect of a project.

I have the background on layers set as "No Fill."

The layer settings are only Hide other slide layers. The box to hide base layer or prevent user from clicking or pausing are all UNCHECKED.

The base layer has visibility locked.

When I click on the layer, sometimes I can see the button. Then I click away to a different slide and come back, and sometimes I cannot see the button. No settings have changed, no work has been done, just navigating in the project.

When published, I cannot see or click on the button.

        Hi LaraWheeler-b70

If I understand correctly, you're experiencing inconsistent button visibility in your project file. I tested this on my end and am seeing the layer as expected

        • You mentioned the button sometimes shows when viewing the slide layer. Do you notice any other elements on your base slide or text?
        • What are your current settings for revisiting your slide? I'd be curious to know if changing the resume settings changes your experience.

Since this behavior seems to be specific to your project file, we'd be happy to take a closer look at your .story file in this thread or privately in a support case.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
