Links to files in resources
Hi John,
Happy to help here! Let's see why that error message is showing up.
A few questions for you about this:
- Does the error message occur after publishing your course? Or is this happening while previewing your course?
- You mentioned that you are in the Master Slide, is this a custom resources tab? Or is the design similar to what is outlined here.
Please keep us posted and let us know if you have any questions!
I cant seem to add the link it always just errors I even copied and pasted from the example can you help?

Hi RebekahMollgaar,
I know this can be frustrating, especially when you’ve copied the example and still see an error.
One key thing to check is whether the Resources tab is enabled in the Player settings. If it isn’t, the file won’t be included in the published output, which can cause links like "story_content/external_files/filename.pdf" to fail even when the path looks correct. This has come up in similar community threads before.
After confirming that, try publishing and testing the link in its final environment (Review, LMS, or server), since local preview can behave differently.
If you’re still seeing the error after that, the next best step would be to take a look at your Storyline project. You can share it here in the thread or privately through a support case, and we’ll delete the file when we’re done testing.
