Missing Resume Buttons

Just recently, we are seeing an issue regarding the resume buttons when someone reopens a course. I've tested this out and can confirm that when in Chrome, the yes/no buttons are not appearing but they DO appear if it's in Internet Explorer. 

I am not sure if this is affecting all courses or certain ones. Thus far, it's a relatively small handful of courses affected, but I realize that could change since this is a recent issue. 

I've attached a screen shot taken when a course reopens in Chrome.

Is anyone else seeing this, and if so, do you have a solution?

    That's definitely strange, and not ideal! Let's figure out what's happening here.

    I have a few questions for you to start:

    1. What version of Storyline are you using? 
    2. Where are you hosting your course?
    3. Can you share the .story project file of one of the affected courses here with me so I can do some testing? You can add it right to a comment as an attachment.

      By the way, I do have Articulate 360, but the version that's hosted on the LMS is not that version

    Thanks so much for sharing your file with me! 

    It looks like the .story you attached is actually a Storyline 1 version- probably the backup created when it was upgraded to Storyline 2 so I just wanted to make sure that's the one you wanted me to look at.

    If you made any changes to it in Storyline 2 before uploading it to your LMS- can I have a look at that version?

    We are still getting sporadic calls from people with this issue and today it occurred to me that I never sent you the file you had requested. Attached you'll find the most recent one. Thank you for taking a look.

    Thanks so much for sharing the updated file with me. I published it and uploaded to SCORM Cloud to test it out in an LMS.

    When revisiting the course in the latest Chrome, the buttons on the Resume window show for me: 

    Take a look at it here and let me know if you still see that issue when revisiting the course in Chrome.

    Hi Ali,

    We are still having issues with this and I'm having trouble figuring out what's causing it. At the moment it doesn't seem to be related only to Chrome. It seems to occur if someone is resuming a course vs. starting it for the first time. I can't find a rhyme or reason for it. I've tested it in my Chrome and IE browsers and they pull up but I'm still getting several calls a week with this exact same issue. I've been telling users to flip their browser (Chrome to IE, vice versa, or to go in through their Citrix portal) and so far that's been the work around but I'd still like to get to the bottom of this. 

    I have asked a question of our LMS provider (HealthStream) to see if there's any potential for it to be LMS-related but right now it feels that it's either Storyline or browser related. 

    Can you think of anything that we might try to further dig into this issue? Thank you Ali

  • Hi Kari,

    I may be misunderstanding, but if you're starting a course for the first time you would not see the resume prompt. That should only appear if the user exited the course and then returned to access it again. 

    Did you try Ali's course at SCORM Cloud to see if you could replicate the same behavior there? Also, do you know which versions of Chrome and IE you're using?

    Hello.  I realize this posting is fairly old, but I am experiencing this same issue. Users attempting to resume online courses are getting the prompt but no buttons to take action.

    To dig a little deeper, I have 8 courses that were published in 2015 (by a 3rd party, I do not have the source files). It appears they were published for Flash Player output with HTML5 as backup.  With Flash Player disabled, these courses will play in Chrome without problem (launches in HTML5 determined by spinner @ course load).  In Internet Explorer & Edge, however, the courses don't launch. It appears the redirect to HTML5 doesn't happen.

    To try to remedy this, I opened the .zip file and modified the launcher.html file. In this file there is a variable for the start page that was showing as index_lms.html.  I changed this to point to the index_lms_html5.html page. 

    After republishing SCORM output and loading to our LMS, viola, the course successfully launched in Internet Explorer (version 11).  Sadly, the excitement was short-lived, however, as I tested in Chrome. Where this course was previously working, now I got the same issue described in this post (and another from a few years back).  The course redirects to the HTML5 page but the course resume prompt does not have any buttons displayed to which the student can take action.  

    In addition, when using Edge, this problem appears on both the course I modified (to point to the HTML5 index page) and the other 7 courses that still point to the original index page (see attachments).

    Any ideas why this may be happening?  Thank you.

    We're experiencing this too. I've found that if the learner zooms out, then they can see the buttons. So, the browser is at 100%, but if they make it 75%, they can see the Yes or No resume buttons.

    Is this a storyline player issue?
