Mute/remove audio from screen recording?

While recording the screen for a Try It simulation, I clicked on No Audio and turned the mic off in the recorder settings (it was the one with the eq lighting up, so I figured that was the only one that needed changed). However, the background music I was listening to while doing the screen recording made it into the simulation because the speakers weren't turned off in the record settings.

Now, whenever the media plays in the simulation you can hear little bits of a song. I really don't want to have to go back and re-do the entire simulation because of this. Is there a way to strip the audio or mute the audio prior to publishing, or even in the published version and just turn the volume option in the player off so the users can't turn it up?

Thanks,

Ryan

  • Is there anything that can be done to strip out the audio that was recorded while recording a demo? I don't want this incidental audio to be archived in my Storyline file. (By mistake I recorded audio while working with an SME. )

It also makes my Storyline file too large. (It does not play on the Slide-by-Slide demos but it's still there when you go to Slides-Record Screen)

It is not easy for me to re-record these. It seems like there should be a way to remove this audio?

I have attached a screen shot--I am talking about these source video files.

  • Hi, Anne!

Thanks for reaching out about this. While there isn't a built-in option to remove background noise from a screen recording, one idea can be to mute the recording's volume and re-record just the video. Here's how:

    • Select the recording you need to edit, then go to the Options tab on the ribbon. From there, click on Video Volume and select Mute.

A few folks have mentioned they've used Audacity to remove the audio from their recording. Please see this discussion for more details and let me know if you need additional assistance!

      Hi Kelly,

Thank you for your reply. In my case I want to remove the audio from the source files. I don’t include videos in the final course. I use the recordings as step-by-step slides.

However, I don’t want the audio recordings to be archived with the source file. My SME and I did not realize we were being recorded as we did captures and it is more of a privacy issue if someone else opens the Storyline source file. Does that make sense?

I looked at the link you provided, thanks for sending it. However, I don’t see any Videos in my media library. I am trying to get at the source files from the recording, shown in the attached image.

      Thanks,
      Anne

        Hi Anne,

Thanks for the additional information. Since there isn't a way to remove the audio from the screen recordings, i'll let the community chime in on this one. There might be someone who has a solution they'd be willing to share that might work for you.
