New Rise Feature: Sidebar Visibility
Hey Everyone,
We released a new feature to Rise today that allows you to set sidebar visibility.
You can now choose to:
- Set the sidebar to be open at course launch (default)
- Set the sidebar to be closed at course launch
- Remove the sidebar completely from the course
Check out this 90 second video for the details:

Enjoy!

Is it possible to hide a lesson in the sidebar? Not the entire sidebar.
Hi Neena!
Thanks for your question! All lessons will appear in the sidebar, and there isn't a way to hide individual lessons.

It would be SUPER GREAT if there was a sidebar feature that allowed the sidebar to be visible but collapsed to just show section headings.
Give a +1 if you agree!

hi, just wondering if it's possible to display the sidebar permanently, for example, hide the 'hamburger' icon to prevent users hiding the sidebar?
thanks!
Hi John, the sidebar options are for when the course initially launches. This can't be permanently set to open. That being said, if we make any changes to this you'll hear about it!

For those who are looking into hiding the sidebar navigation in 2023 - the setting for this has moved to the Theme section in Articulate Rise and NOT under settings. You can go to the lesson you are exporting to web and click on Theme in the top right menu, find Navigation and toggle the sidebar off there. THEN you can proceed to export to web.
That's right, Michelle! That setting can now be found under Themes > Navigation > Sidebar.
Thanks for sharing this. In addition, you can find more information in the article "Rise 360: Control Course Navigation."

Working with Rise today I'm finding that I now have only two options Side bar menu open at start or hidden completely.
The video describes three options. Things have obviously changed since the video was made available. I've been finding 'Navigation' under 'Theme' rather than 'Settings' when I have been working with it recently. But until today I could turn navigation off in the theme settings and the user could still use the hamburger icon to open the side menu.
I prefer to have no side bar open at start but allow the user to open the menu if they want to. I have also found that having the sidebar open at start can sometimes cause problems when using a screenreader - I have got caught in a loop.
