Opening Projects Created in older versions of Storyline
Has anyone else come across an issue with opening a "story" that was created in a previous version of storyline? I downloaded the newest version, as per the prompt that appeared when I opened Articulate, and I can't open any of my previous projects to edit them!

Hi Cameron,
Sorry to hear you're running into this snag. I'm happy to help!
I have a few questions in order to better assist you:
- What version of Storyline are you utilizing?
- Would you be able to share the .story file that you are having difficulty opening?
If you'd rather have us take a look at your file privately, we'd be happy to discuss this within a support case.
Please let us know if you have any other questions!

For some reason I am only able to open shared storyline files with the Nov. 7 2022 version. I created copies of the files to import slides into the April 18, 2023 version with no success. In desperate need of support as my workload grows!

hi is there an update on this issue?
Hi Julie!
Thanks for reaching out! It sounds like you are also experiencing issues while opening a course that was created in an earlier version of Storyline 360? I'd be happy to help!
Have you tried troubleshooting your file with the tactics my colleague, Katie, shared in her reply above?
Give them a try, and if you're still running into issues, you can attach your file here or privately in a support case, and our team would be happy to offer some guidance.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

I am having the same issue today - the file I am trying to open was created in March 2025 if that helps. We are needing to do some updates to it for 2026 but I cannot get it open. I tried making a copy and import into a new project but Storyline crashed every time I attempted that. Please advise.

Hi MikkiCastor-26c,
I’m sorry you’re running into this. Not being able to open a Storyline project you need to update can be really stressful, and I appreciate you sharing what you’ve tried so far.
If a Storyline repair does not help, would you be able to share your Storyline file either here in the thread or privately through a support case?
We’ll take a closer look and see what we can do.
