Passing A Numeric Variable from Storyline to Cornerstone LMS/LRS

Hello! Our team is trying to build a leaderboard for a quiz activity from a Storyline course. We need to pass a numeric value from the score to our LMS/LRS which is Cornerstone On Demand. 

The problem is that our instance of CSOD only supports SCORM 1.2. I've found some old threads, with links to deleted discussions, but I can't find anything conclusive.

Is there ANY way to get SCORM 1.2 to capture a numeric score and send it through to the LMS? If we can get that, we can export to a .csv file that our data team can turn into a leaderboard.

There have been suggestions of using xAPI statements, but that has been difficult as well. If there's a clear way to use xAPI to do that, I'd be open to that as well. I'm just a bit out of my depth here.
