Please allow Ctrl + F to search Alt text

Hi,

Can you please give us the power to perform searches within Alt text?

I suggest a checkbox which users can select to include Alt text when using the Ctrl + F search.

Many thanks in advance.

  • JMManalili  Thank you for asking for more info.

The reason I would like this feature is to solve a related problem I have already reported...

The default Alt text that Storyline insists on inserting into objects is very unhelpful - for example, shapes are given Alt text like "Oval 1". This is profoundly unhelpful, and I need a function to perform a sweep through the course (e.g. using Ctrl + F) to remove these strings, as they are sometimes forgotten about, and our clients complain when they appear in the translation doc. This is also related to another issue I have reported - objects with disabled Alt text still have their Alt text appear in the translation doc.

Currently, I use the Translation Export Word Doc feature to find these strings. This gets me part of the way, but it is often quite difficult to work backwards from the Word doc to the shape in the Storyline editor, because the objects are sometimes buried inside groups and states.

      Hello DeveloperIgniti,

Thank you for the detailed follow-up! I understand that you’d like Ctrl + F to search alt text so you can catch default alt text before it shows up in the translation doc, where clients notice it. You’ve also seen that objects with disabled alt text still appear in the translation doc. Today, you use the Translation Export Word Doc to find them, but it’s hard to trace each one back to its shape in Storyline when it’s buried in a group or state.

We appreciate you walking us through how this plays out in your work. We can’t promise a specific outcome, but your details help us better understand your experience.

  • Hi DeveloperIgniti,

Thanks for suggesting an option to include alt text in Ctrl + F searches! I’d love to learn more about how you’d use this in your projects.

Could you share an example of when searching alt text would help? How do you currently find the alt text you need to review or change?

That context will help us understand what you’re trying to accomplish.

Looking forward to hearing from you!
