Poster Frame Image in Rise video

Hi Everyone,

I have a video which I have created/published from SL360, for the purposes of inserting into a Rise course (as a video in a Block (ie not a SL module insert)).

I am going round in circles - simply trying have the video image show before the learner clicks to play. (ie as opposed to a black frame).

I enabled Poster Frame Image when I created in SL, however, I saw this post re PFI not be enabled in Rise (https://community.articulate.com/discussions/rise/rise-video-poster-frame).

As an alternative I added a still image at the start of the timeline in SL and republished, but I just went from a black to a white set frame.

I am sure this must be a very simple thing, but I am stumped.

Thanks Christine

Not much progress on this I see, Nearly 4 Years later! Is it really that difficult to implement?

  • Wanted to share that while this isn't built into Rise, you can now easily drop in a custom thumbnail/poster image using the Mighty Chrome extension which sits on top of Rise and adds a lot of little features like this! Here is a quick video that shows you how it works. So simple 🙌

Tons of built in features that will easily save you hours upon hours of post-publish work and potentially unlock things (like this) that you couldn't easily do otherwise! My friend PhilFoss has a detailed video that walks through how you can replace the generated thumbnail image post-production as a solution as well. Again, neither built in to Rise, but adds options! https://youtu.be/gLEoTl_QE-I?si=dSUna7y3_W_-ojZ7&t=241

Where can I add my name to the list to request that this feature be implemented immediately? It is simply inexcusable that Articulate chases shiny AI trinkets rather than implement quality of life features such as this.

Hey, maybe use some of that whiz-bang new AI to generate the code to allow us to add a freaking poster frame to a video in Rise!

If not, is it too much to ask that someone check in here every year or so and tell us it's still not going to happen?

It seems they have stopped listening to us about 7 years ago. This is what happens when you deal with a monopoly.

I don't know if anyone has seen the "Roadmap" lately, but it's AI this, AI that, AI, AI, AI.

Not one mention of any features that have been requested on this and many topics for so many years. This thread is 8 freaking years old. Maybe Articulate needs to give us peons (aka, paying customers) a vote where we get to pick 10 things a year that actually matter to us for them to accomplish.

Freaking fantastic that AI will figure out a whole course for me. Is that what any of us are asking for (and consistently for over 8 years?)

Jim, many users share this concern. Articulate has a unique problem: their tenants (like you and me) have been exporting and publishing courses for about 8 years now. The export process cuts off any code updates from the mothership, which is generally a good thing. My course has been deployed and has been working for 4 years. Meanwhile, Articulate is making weekly updates/fixes/improvements to their software. New courses are different from old courses. Instead of updating old blocks, Articulate puts priority on new content types, especially AI.

Agreed, but I am creating new courses all of the time. These ongoing neglected items interfere with my productivity every time I work on a new project.
