Pre-Check Quiz Still Reports Failed Score

Hello! I have set up a pre-check quiz for a course expecting no score to be submitted if the user fails. In testing this feature in our LMS (Cornerstone), I found that the failed score still appears on the learner's transcript.

Desired result: If the learner fails the pre-check, then they should take the course with knowledge checks and receive a 100% completion status.

Has anyone else set this up successfully? Thank you!

  • Hi Jessica,

Great question! I understand that you'd like the score for your pre-check quiz to not be submitted to your LMS if the learner fails. I'd be happy to work with you to figure out why this is happening. I have a follow-up question regarding the situation so I can understand what you are experiencing a little better.

    • Have you tested your course in SCORM cloud? It's an online LMS environment that can be used to figure out whether the issue is with the LMS or the Story file. If you test your course on SCORM cloud and it works perfectly, then your issue is likely LMS-based.

Thanks for reaching out and I look forward to your response!

  • Hi John! Thank you for the response. Yes, I have tested the course in SCORM cloud and still see the failed score reported. Attached is a screenshot to show the result.

      Hello Jessica,

Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a look at how you setup your reporting and tracking options? We'll delete it when we're done testing!

  • Hi Joe! Yes, I have opened a support case and received an email to let me know it is being reviewed. Thank you!

  • I have created a workaround by converting one of my slides to a freeform question where the learner will click a button to complete the "Final Assessment." I then used my Summary slide as a results slide and hid the success and failure layers. After testing, I found that this meets our needs. Thanks to all!

  • Hi, Jessica,

When there are multiple tracking options, the program reports the first option the learner completes to the LMS.

The exception to the "first completed" rule is a quiz that is labeled as a Pre-Check

In that case, the program will report the pretest score if the user passes. Otherwise, it will report completion based on the next option completed.

When you added the freeform question and Summary(Results) slide to the course, did you change the label for the pretest to Pre-Check? That would explain why your workaround works.

Bottom line: I think your course would work without that disguised Final Assessment at the end if you still label the pretest as a Pre-Check.

  • Hi, Judy! I selected the Pre-Check option before I added the disguised Final Assessment and the course still reported the failed score to our LMS. I also heard from an engineer at SL that there has to be a final assessment to overwrite the failed score. So even though, the completion criteria was not met with the failed score on the pre-check, it was still reported unless there was another means to overwrite it.
