Problem With "Image as Background" Option [Microlearning]

Hi all!

I have run into a consistent issue, pictured below, where trying to connect a solid colored block, such as a Heading block, to any block with an image background will result in the solid color of the top block bleeding into the block with the image. In the screenshots, you can see that there is no problem in the builder, but then in preview, the black extends down and covers quite a bit of the background.

The only solution I've found for this problem so far is to attach another block to the bottom, such as a Continue block. For some reason, if the block with an image background is sandwiched, this issue does not occur. While this solution is helpful, there are multiple instances where it would not be optimal to include an extra block at the bottom.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any tips & tricks for getting around this, or is this user error?

Thanks and have a great Tuesday.

  • Hello everyone, 🎉

I'm happy to let you know we released a new update for Rise 360. This update fixes the issue you encountered where the background color of text blocks spills over interactive blocks with an image background. There's nothing to install for web apps. New features and fixes are immediately available, though you might need to export your Rise 360 course again.

Let me know if you have any questions about this update or the issue you reported!

  • Hi Scott,

Thanks for reaching out, and I'm sorry for the trouble with the image background in Rise 360! I see that you're working with my teammate Lejan on a support case, and unfortunately, this issue has been identified as a bug in the product. Our engineers are currently working on a fix, and we'll let you know once it is available.

In the meantime, I'm opening the floor to our community members who may have encountered the issue and would like to share how they handled it in their courses.

  • Any news on this? I experience the same issue and it messes up the entire course unfortunately.

      Hi Selma,

I'm sorry to hear that you ran into this issue. We're still working on a fix for the bug described here. The only workaround we've identified so far is to avoid using image backgrounds.

Since this thread is already linked to the bug report, we'll leave a message here as soon as a fix is released.

  • Same issue here. Did I read somewhere that a feature to connect background images across multiple blocks was in the pipeline for Rise? Or was I just dreaming that?

      Hi Lee,

I'm sorry for the inconvenience. I've added your voice to the bug report and we'll let everyone subscribed to this thread know as soon as a fix is released. You can check out our product roadmap for any features in the works!

I would like to second the request for connecting backgrounds across multiple blocks. As I've continued working with image backgrounds, this has quickly become my most sought after feature! Not being able to add text, for instance, to a video block that has an image background has really limited what kinds of backgrounds I can use.

In the meantime, we've ultimately circumvented the original bug mentioned here by pivoting over to the Continuous micro-course type, vs the step-by-step. We didn't do it to avoid the bug, but because it ended up being our new preferred format, we can work around the image backgrounds better.

Same issue is happening here.  In my case, if I use a Paragraph/Heading block with an image background and connect it to any other block that is white, the text on the bottom of the paragraph bleeds over into the white below so then it's white on white and unreadable.  It's meant we cannot make the courses as visually interesting by having to avoid image backgrounds or we have to disconnect blocks and the course doesn't flow as well.  Please add my voice to the bug report.
