Received Exception > Storyline.exe - EXCEPTION
Hello,
Today I received an exception warning dialog box titled "Storyline.exe - EXCEPTION." The warning states "Breakpoint: A breakpoint has been reached." On 10/13/23, I did not receive this exception. As of today, I have received the exception on two different Storyline files. The last Storyline 360 update version = v3.80.31038.0.
The Storyline file will launch, but if you click on "OK", it WILL CLOSE the Storyline file. In order to proceed in editing a Storyline file, I must leave the "Storyline.exe - EXCEPTION" dialog box open. I may assume this exception is a "bug" for Storyline 360. Is there a "bug fix" in the works?
Thank you kindly.
Hi S Chen!
Sorry to hear you've run into this error! I'd be happy to help troubleshoot and have some follow-up questions to get us started.
- Did this error start appearing after upgrading your Storyline application to a certain version? If so, would you mind sharing which one?
- Are you working locally? Working from a network or shared drive may cause erratic behavior.
- Have you tried performing a repair of your Storyline 360 application? If you are working locally, and Storyline 360 is properly installed, these errors tend to go away.
If you would like our support engineers to take a closer look at your setup, you can connect with them here.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

- I did list the version in my original post = v3.80.31038.0
- We have Storyline 360 as a desktop installation.
- Do you have a post with the steps for performing a repair of Storyline 360?
As of today, one of my teammates is receiving the SAME Breakpoint exception. Due to network security concerns, we cannot allow outside support to view our system to verify the setup.
Thank you.

I'm the coworker to the post above. My version is V3.80.310580.
Hi, S Chen and Mickey!
Thank you for following up on this. Is it possible for you to share the .story file with us so we can troubleshoot further? You can upload it here or privately in a support case, and we'll delete it from our systems once we narrow down the issue.

Hi Kelly,
It's not a particular file that's doing it. It's the program itself launching. Even when you launch from here to make a new one. However, all the other programs launch just fine.

Hi, Kelly,
I found the attached file "How to Fix the Exception Breakpoint Has Been Reached Error in Windows 11_04-06-2023" online. Mickey as had our IT support staff uninstall and reinstall, with no change to the breakpoint exception.
The exception breakpoint also prevents some features from being utilized to create the functionality in Storyline 360.
If you can provide some insights for a workaround, that would be awesome!
Thank you very much for your help!

Hi there,
I am getting the same exception error on the programme. No particular file, just the programme.

Thanks a mil,
Julie Gray

I am receiving additional functionality issues due to breakpoint exception:
- Launch of Office 365 Enterprise PowerPoint generated error dialog box while Storyline 360 project still has breakpoint exception stating "PowerPoint is running into problems with 'articulate.presenter.ipc' add-in. If this keeps happening, disable this add-in and check for available updates." I disabled to allow use of PowerPoint 365. Both Office 365 and Storyline have been updated. See attached image.
- The breakpoint exception prevents preview of the slide OR a scene. A work around is to publish to the review site to determine if the slide or scene functions as intended. This makes creating a project take twice as long.
I have noted the same in case# 03923025.
Hi, S Chen!
Thanks so much for updating the thread and including this information in your case for Lejan. All helpful information to continue troubleshooting this issue. We appreciate your patience as we work through this together!
