Resume timeline/audio after avatar selected

I think this worked at one point, but it's not now. On layer 2 the learner choses their avatar. After they click (on either one) I want the timeline/audio to resume. I've tried multiple things. At the moment I think it's working if they pick "George" but not if they pick "Marilyn." What's the best way to do this?

  • The order that the triggers are in is important. It seems that if you trigger the audio first, it will stop playing when the timeline is resumed. You can move the audio trigger down with the little arrow on top of the trigger panel:

One more thing: if the avatar is selected to early, both audios will play at the same time. So the hotspots should only become available after the first audio has been completed.

Alternatively, instead of using these audio/timeline triggers, you could put the second audio on the "characters" layer and just use a "show layer "characters" when user clicks" trigger - I think this would be an easier solution. (Don't forget to delete the "show layer "characters" trigger when the timeline ends" trigger from the base layer.)

    Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your response! The "play audio" and "resume timeline" were actually two different ways to accomplish the same thing and I mostly resolved the original problem by removing the "play audio triggers. Now it always works if the course is started from the beginning, but if I finish and go back and pick the other character, it doesn't work on the first try, but by picking different characters, I can get it to continue.

Thank you for pointing out the issue with an avatar being selected too early! I delayed the start of the hotspots, slightly delayed the text box to choose and faded it in.

The next layer is the reveal of the kitchen, so I don't want to do that until audio 2 says "... your kitchen." I guess I could make the first 5 seconds of the Characters layer look like layer 2, but why would I do that?

In preview, it's not working at all. I added back the Play audio 2 when user clicks [both hotspots], making sure to put it after the Resume timeline, but now it doesn't resume the timeline or play the audio (which are essentially the same thing). When I publish it, it works if I pick the male character but not the woman, even though the triggers are identical.

      Hello AlisonC,

I made some changes to your project file by reordering the triggers for Marilyn. I tested it, and I got Marilyn to appear on the "Characters" layer when the cue point reached its position in the timeline. Would you mind testing the attached file and letting me know if anything else needs to be changed to meet your design expectations?

Hi Jose, Thank you for looking at this. There seems to be some level of randomness involved. When I publish your version, if I select Marilyn, the narrative audio plays after I click. If I choose the male character on the left, the narrative audio does not resume. I have a version without the "Play audio 2" triggers, just the resume timeline triggers that I swear worked this morning, but it's not working now. The problem was never with the variables; the right characters are appearing. The problem is with hearing the rest of the audio on that layer.

      Hi AlisonC,

Thanks for the additional information! I opened a support case on your behalf so a support engineer review the audio in your slides. You're in good hands, and someone from our team will be in touch shortly to help check your project!
