Scrubbing the timeline : actual view ?
Hello,
I think it would be great if you could scrub the timeline in Storyline.
Being used to Flash, I find having all object at once confusing (and actually I don't see the point apart from a visual mess).
The problem is you can't see what you actullay get under playhead unless you play your scene.
Could you consider having a mode where you only see on stage what's under the playhead ? I recently had a busy timeline with many speech bubbles and I spend my time hiding/unhiding layer to get everything in place.
What do you think ?

I have also submitted a feature request for this ability. As I mention in my request, I say that I'm not looking for 100% real-time scrubbing (a la Flash or video editors), but for the stage to show the "current" objects only where the playhead it placed "once the SL author stops moving the playhead".
The way things are currently, with 100% of all objects stacking on top of one another, is sways me away from creating more complex timeline animations. Of course we can decide to constantly hide/show layers, but that gets pretty cumbersome.
Perhaps between 2018 & 2019 - depending on the priority of this request - we might see such a feature in updates.

As this request was documented several years ago, I am also curious as to whether there has been any traction on implementing this feature request?
The ability to have real-time scrubbing would vastly improve accurately timing animations to audio.
The current “Play Preview to Sync” method is far from efficient.

Thanks Darrel, I'd like to know too... What can we expect after FOUR years?
Hi Darrel and Pierre,
We do have a feature request submitted to our team about this and with the launch of Articulate 360, we've shifted how we handle features. You can read more about our process here.
So with that being said, it's in the right hands on our team and I'll be sure to let them know about the continued interest based on this discussion.
Once we do have more to share, I'll be certain to update you all here.

I too am interested in where this feature is in the development phase.
Sounds great Stephen - this thread has been attached to the request so if we have an update, you should get a notification as well :)
Welcome to E-Learning Heroes by the way!

Hey all! Wondering if perhaps we could get an Articulate Engineer to pop on this thread and explain why this hasn't been (or perhaps why it is now, but is not yet ready) a priority? I think even just knowing that someone thinks it's real and is progressing towards a solution - or alternately that Articulate have determined this functionality should not be incorporated and we should just stop harping on it?
4 years in, I know I'm just looking for acknowledgement and a status update.
Alternately, I guess I could just unsubscribe from this thread. Every time someone chimes in it's like when Facebook reminds you that "4 years ago today" you were out doing something really great with your dog who is now dead. "Aw man! I forgot about that timeline request.... wow, it's still going on...".

Ha! Well said, Ms. Murphy.
Hi Katherine,
Oh gosh! Invoking the dead dog...that may have brought me to tears. 😕
I'd hope it's nowhere near as sad as that! To give you a little insight into the why, our team has recently changed how we report, track and advocate for features and we follow the method outlined here. We also know with the shift to Articulate 360 that we needed to roll out continuous features and updates, and the subscription service allows us to do that.
The reason this has received another look is because of some other features or fixes that would be connected. As our team digs into this deeper, then they'll determine where this fits in our roadmap. We don't share that roadmap publicly, but we'll share as much as we can when we can.
You can certainly unsubscribe from the forum discussion here (Click on Subscribed at the top) - it can be a lot of emails (I know that first hand!). If you do, you may want to bookmark things like our “What’s New” page, and the Articulate Storyline version history.
I hope that helps clarify, and if I can help with anything else please let me know!

Hi Ashley,
Thanks for your answser but we're still beating around the bush!
Your links deal with general stuff, not particular points.
I totally agree with Katherine point of view.
This is the "scrubbing the timeline" thread, is there a better place for information?
Just tell us "Yes, we're working on it but it takes a long time because..." or "No, this would involve core modifications to SL so...".
Thanks.
