Seeking Recommendations for LMS/LRS Integration and Real-Time Reporting with Storyline 360
Hi everyone,
I’m currently exploring how to best implement detailed quiz tracking in Storyline 360, and I’d love to hear about your experiences with the following:
- Best LMS/LRS Integration: Can anyone recommend LMS platforms with built-in LRS capabilities that work well with Storyline 360 for capturing detailed quiz data?
- Real-Time Reporting: Have you been able to pull real-time quiz performance data into a dashboard for training managers? If so, what tools or integrations did you use?
- Troubleshooting xAPI Tracking: If the LRS isn’t receiving the expected quiz data, what steps do you take to troubleshoot and debug this issue?
Finally, considering my goal to track more detailed learner interactions (like time stamps and quiz responses), do you think xAPI is the best option, or have you found SCORM 2004 to be more effective?
Looking forward to your insights!

Hi NiallOMalley if you are happy with the data that SCORM 2004 reports to the LMS and an LMS supports reporting of that data (the key data being cmi.interactions), I think that SCORM 2004 is your path of least resistance. If you check out the SCORM Cloud service, and import a Storyline quiz published as SCORM 2004, you will be able to get a feel for the type of data sent to the LMS by looking at the logs they provide (you can also do the same with Storyline published as xAPI).
I think with xAPI, you will be paying for an extra service, and if all you need is that cmi.interaction data, I'm not sure it would be worth it. If the SCORM 2004 reporting on the LMS is good enough, I would recommend that.
I think xAPI is really good for granular reporting and tracking lots of different types of interactions throughout the content such as whether a user watched a video, did they open a document, did they click on a button etc. It is also good for sharing data between users, for example scores in a score board (SCORM API cannot share user data between users).
If your goal is quiz reporting, I think SCORM 2004 is just about good enough.
