Some AI Voices are Going Away in April: What to do Next
Following changes from our text-to-speech partner, ElevenLabs, some AI voices will be retired in April 2026, and we want to make sure you have time and support to plan ahead.
What this means:
- Any audio you’ve already generated with these voices will not go away.
- After April 2026, you won’t be able to create new audio using the retired voices. You will also no longer be able to regenerate audio in existing courses using these voices.
What to do next:
If you've used one of these voices in your trainings, you'll receive direct email outreach from us.
- Review the AI voices that will be retired and ElevenLabs’ recommended replacements: View the impacted voices and how to update them.
- Stop using the soon-to-be-deprecated voices in your trainings. While existing audio will continue to play, you won’t be able to regenerate or create new audio with these voices after April.
- Look out for more direction from us soon. Our team is working on tools to help you easily swap voices on impacted audio files. We’re also exploring other ways to avoid similar disruptions in the future.
We know that losing access to voices can be disruptive. We’d love to learn from the community as you navigate this change:
- If you’ve already navigated a voice swap, consider sharing what worked for you.
- What would make a migration tool most helpful for your workflow?

Thanks for the advance information.
According to Rise the Voice Matilda (american) will no longer be available in "66 days" but in the sheet you shared, she is even recommended to use as a replacement for Gigi?
Is this a bug in Rise? Will the voice only dissappear in Rise but will still be available in Storyline?
Can you give clarification here?
Thank you very much and best regardsHello Jurij!
I can confirm that our team has implemented a fix. Matilda should be working as expected. You should see the voice without any availability message.
If you are still experiencing this behavior, we'd be happy to take a closer look at your setup within a support case.

I too just ran into this issue with Matilda this morning and sent email to support. I had just finished replacing Gigi on several items with Matilda.
Hello JulieGorman,
Great call opening a case! I see that Robby was able to share the fix with you in your case. If you experience this going forward, please let us know in this thread or within your case. Happy to help!

Hi ElyseCroteau-a5 ! Great question. This change is impacting just a small fraction of the AI voices available in Articulate. There are over 5,000 available voices that span different genders, native languages, dialects, ages, and more. You can learn more about our voice library here. Hope this helps!

Oh wow, thank you Liam_Eagen for this discovery. I spend many hours in Storyline every day and actually had no idea this feature existed. This is amazing! I will definitely use this a lot.

I appreciate the advance notice, which gives us time to adjust our designs if needed. That said, the list of voices being retired is quite extensive and leaves us with a noticeably unbalanced set of options: 7 female voices, 14 male voices, and 1 non-binary voice.
Are there plans to introduce new voices in the near future?
I often use different voices to create distinct characters that learners associate with specific topics or roles. With so few female voices remaining, I’ll need to recycle them very quickly, which limits both variety and representation.
More broadly, are there any plans to move toward gender parity in the available voices? A more balanced offering would make a meaningful difference for inclusive and engaging course design.
