Storyline 360: Quiz Question Responses Shift Slightly on Hover

Has anyone run into a strange issue that upon publishing and loading a course to your LMS (we use Saba), some responses to quiz questions shift ever so slightly on hover or when selected? The course was originally built in Storyline 2, and this was not an issue. It is also not an issue when previewing within Storyline. However, when taking the course as a learner, the random shifting of words is quite annoying. It's not consistent; some question slides are fine. And within one slide, not all answers necessarily shift.

The way it functions, I would have guessed that the states had been edited and that the hover or selected states had the text moved a pixel or two. But this is not the case. Any ideas or at least confirmation that I'm not crazy would be helpful. :)

Thanks,

Tessa

  • I did some experimenting and found that if I set the Paragraph settings for all the responses to have a Line Spacing of Multiple/1.05 it removed the shifting. See the attached screen shot.

(I'm using the Updated Text in SL360, and all the responses are set to Expand Height, which will allow for responses that go beyond 1 line.)

  • H all -

This issue seemed to have gone away for a while, but it is back again. The strange thing is that when I look at my course in Review, the shifting doesn't happen. But when my reviewer looks at the same link in review, it does. It also happens in SCORM format as well.

    Thanks - Jillian

  • Hi Jillian,

Thanks for reaching out about this! You may have already seen the support email I sent. As mentioned, I've created a case to escalate your issue to our support team, so be on the lookout for a reply shortly!

  • 5 years later and with the most current updates (x64) and the issue still isn't resolved.

      Hello Angie,

Thanks for reaching out! Are you also experiencing the same issue reported in this thread, where the text becomes jittery when the mouse is hovered over long text in a multiple choice text box? We no longer see this behavior in the latest update of Storyline.

I appreciate it if you could share a screen recording of what you see on your end. We'd be happy to look into it for you. You can share the recording here or privately in a support case.

Thank you, Eric! While creating the screen recording for you, I now believe the issue begins when I apply a Layout from my Master Slides. I apologize for thinking this was an unresolved SL issue because now it seems I need support to fix my master slide for quiz slides. The hover option does not 'jitter' until after I apply the slide layout. I am attaching a video that shows the non jitter upon adding a new blank quiz slide and then the weirdness that happens when I apply my master slide layout. I am also attaching a trimmed down version of my template file. Thank you in advance for you help with this master slide!

I just ran into this issue and was able to resolve by going to form view, cutting the answer that was jumping around, and pasting it to another answer row.

  • Wanted to refresh this conversation, as 5 years later, it's STILL happening, with no solution provided, nor reasons why this happens. The states of question slide answers shift around. Just look at the states of any answer and you'll see that some move around slightly, some move around quite a bit, and some don't move at all. 5 years and no updates??

  • Hello Popeyes Training,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble. The bug linked to this discussion was already fixed in a previous Storyline release. I ran some tests in the attached project file to confirm this and did not see the issue when hovering over the answer text boxes during preview.

Does this happen in a new Storyline file on your end or only in a particular file? If this happens to all project files and you're already working on your local drive, try running these steps to fix possible installation issues

If only one file is affected, would you be willing to share your Storyline project here or privately in a support case? We'll delete it when we're done testing.
