Storyline Text Data to LMS
Hello community
I have a Storyline containing 12 text entry variables all on different slides.
Each one has a Submit interaction trigger on the slide.
In order for the data to transfer to my LMS for reporting, is there anything else I need to think about. For example, do I need a results slide, do I need any Javascript to send data anywhere, or is what I've done so far all I need?
Just having trouble getting the data to appear in the LMS and I just want to understand whether the issue is with the LMS or my course. FYI it is Scorm2004.
Many thanks.
Andrew

To appear in the LMS it would need to be a graded or survey question with results slide

Thanks Phil. Could you tell me more please? A results slide seems to be just numerical values so doesn't look appropriate. As mentioned, I've got 12 text entries and the response to each can be quite long (let's say 250 characters ish) so what is the best way I can get this data on an LMS report (if at all)? As a back up, I've set up an email trigger for them to send their responses, but not only does that rely on them actually sending it, it could also fail which is why I assumed an LMS report could be pulled. Hope you can help.

To transfer the data it will need to be a question, if you look at the survey questions they can be short or long answer questions (you may want to choose the essay question type), to send that data it needs to be reported on using a results slide. You can style the survey questions so they look like your slides, if you use a survey results slide there is no score to send
You can then run an interaction report in your LMS and get the outputs

Okay great. That makes sense. Can I have the results slide hidden as there's no need for the user to see this, and if so, any advice on how to trigger the results?

The user will have to visit the results slide but it could be styled t look like any slide

Thanks again for your assistance, Phil. I've now done exactly this and still have a challenge with data being sent to the LMS. On the quiz settings, I assumed I need to tick/select the buttons shown below in order for this to work. However, when I select all 12 Essays, the user is then not able to type into the text entry and they become stuck on that slide. If I keep them as shown below, the user can type but I assume data is not sent to the LMS. I'll keep looking for a solution. Thanks.
Hi Andrew35,
Thanks for reaching out! I understand you are using SCORM 2004 format for your course. As a reference, this is the information that is sent to the LMS with that formatting. As PhilMayor mentioned, it is important to have the Results Slide included to track the essay questions in the LMS.
- What LMS are you currently using? It's important to know how the LMS reports the data as it is specific to the LMS.
- Have you tested your course with SCORM Cloud? I'm curious if the essay responses get reported in that environment.
- If the same problem is happening in SCORM Cloud, we will then want to take a closer look at your .story file to investigate further. You can share the file in this thread or privately in a support case.
