Stuttering Audio Issues

Hi everyone, I've been using Storyline for three months and today when recording some new audio voice overs in Storyline after I edit and save the file it sounds like Max Headro0m (possibly a dated reference). The audio sounds like it's stuttering over itself. The issue isn't present when I play the audio in the Audio Editor but it's there after I've done the editing and go to put on the closed captions. It's also showing up everywhere you can play the audio after I edit the file (preview in the Audio tool bar, previewing the slide, etc.). I've never had this happen and I've checked my mic connections and closed all other programs while I do this. Anyone else know why this happens and how to fix it? I did update my software yesterday, too.

  • Hi, Katrina, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes! ✨

Thank you for reaching out, and I'm sorry you're experiencing issues after editing your audio!

Let me ask you a few questions:

    • Are you working from a local hard drive? Working on a network drive can cause erratic behavior.
    • If you're working on a local folder, is it set to auto-sync with a service such as OneDrive or Dropbox? If so, can you remove the automatic sync or save the project to a different folder?

If that's not the issue, I recommend reaching out to our support engineers so they can help you troubleshoot through a case

  • I also have this problem - working/saving on local machine - when i edit audio and save it, i get the stuttering effect - so i end up recording the audio over. It is impeding my productivity.

  • Hello Kim, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊

I appreciate you letting us know that you're experiencing a similar issue. I do not see where Katrina opened a support case with our team, so I do not have any additional information to share.

I second the questions that Maria shared above:

    • Are you working from a local hard drive? Working on a network drive can cause erratic behavior.
    • Is your local folder set to auto-sync with a service such as OneDrive or Dropbox? If so, can you remove the automatic sync or save the project to a different folder?

If that's not the issue, I recommend reaching out to our support engineers so they can help you troubleshoot through a case

Hi there - thanks for the reply. I am working off my local drive.

The only thing I can say is that the license is a corporate license - I think it uses single sign on for validation - but that's about all I know - it's never worked properly from the first installation - IT even looked at it and said it was installed properly -but I'm pretty sure there could be some security things perhaps? I posted in a different thread regarding the application crashing mid-stream - big red X on slide and frozen - I have to END PROGRAM in Task Manager - and sometimes (most times) it does it again immediately after - usually a full reboot has to happen -which is also a pain and I'm really struggling to do a good job for this project with so many issues- I don't think they (management) believe me when I say there are so many stops and starts with the application during the day that it impedes my productivity - and it's not my fault - but at the end of the day it just makes me look like I'm not as productive as I should be - and that is not a good feeling.

I don't know if you can help - or how you can help with regard to troubleshooting - I'm sure we'd have to get one of the IT folks here to be part of that conversation so they can allow you to examine what's going on - but if there is a DAT file or some file that I can send you that tracks errors - just tell me where to find it and I'll send it ....

        Hi Kim,

We can help! I responded to your post here with the next step to fixing the crashing issue: Repair Storyline 360.

I understand you're working off your local drive. Is your local folder set to auto-sync with a service such as OneDrive or Dropbox? If so, can you remove the automatic sync or save the project to a different folder?

If those tactics don't help, connect with a support engineer in a support case so they can investigate further: Submit a support case.
