Text entry blank in Rise
I'm developing some material and the project owner has asked about the feasibility of allowing end users to input text which could be reported back to our LMS. We'd then view the entered text and use the information to direct future training efforts. I had to tell the owner this isn't possible now but that I'd ask if something like this was forthcoming. Are there any plans for adding text entry as a block/interaction/quiz option?
Hi Justin,
We're always looking at new quiz question types, and I appreciate you letting us know that a text entry question is important for your courses. It sounds like you're looking for a free response question with no correct answer, is that correct?
I'm happy to pass along this idea for you!

Hello Alyssa! Do you know if this has been addressed yet? The ability to create survey type questions in Rise would be a huge help, especially free response text.

Thank you Alyssa.

Hello,
Has this been implemented at all since this post? I am looking to do the same thing with no correct answer :)
Hi Annabelle,
Do you need to capture the data from learner responses? If not, you could always build a free response question in Storyline and embed it in Rise using a Storyline Block.

Hi Alyssa,
I'd like to capture text responses to a video / audio file I'm embedding in a course. Just as the questions above I'll just need to be able to collect this data and not score it. Can I create something in Storyline and them have this fed through to our LMS? So far all we've done is record success or incomplete so this will be something new.
Love RISE it's all I use for my course development atm.

Alyssa,
I realize it's been quite some time since you responded to this question, but I'm wondering if it's possible to have a text entry field in Rise that doesn't have a correct response (I'm not worried about recording the responses in our LMS) and that doesn't require my learner to hit a play button in order to function on a phone. If I use a Storyline block, the learner has to click a play button, input their text, and then X out of the Storyline block. Then they aren't able to see their input unless they re-open the Storyline block with the play button. Do you know of a work around for this?

Hi Annabelle,
We require to capture results from learner responses using text entry questions. Can this be done in Rise?
Thanks,
Matt
Hey Matthew!
This isn't a feature in Rise yet, but thanks for letting us know it's important to you. It's always helpful to know how in-demand a feature is.
Thanks for letting us know how we can make Rise even better for your needs!
Hi Lionel,
A Storyline quiz in Rise can be used for tracking purposes, including the score, but it won't send individual quiz question data to your LMS.
Rise does have a Fill in the Blank question type, but it sounds like that won't be enough space for your learners to type? I do know a few other folks have asked for a "Survey block" where learners could enter in a larger amount of text. If that would fit your needs I can let our team know that there is another vote for it!

+1 for this. Is there a current workaround? I see other people mentioning building out the open-ended response type in Storyline and including it as a block in Rise, but would the responses be captured by the LMS?
Great question, Joel. While you can send a Storyline Block quiz score to the LMS, the individual responses won't be captured by the LMS.
Thanks for letting us know an open-ended response question is important to you, and we'll let you know if this gets added to Rise in the future!

+1 on this! Survey functionality with free text response so desperately needed. Or any way to capture free-text responses. Especially where organisations don't allow access to external sites.
