Text shadow in Selected State

In Storyline, creating a question template slide, pick 1, three choices.  There is no formatting applied to any of the states on any of the text boxes for the choices.  But suddenly, when I select one of the choices, a shadow appears on the text.  I did not change anything about the text, there is no text shadow applied, nor is there one applied to the text box.  This started happening yesterday, shadow on 1 of the 3 choices.  I updated Storyline. Still appears.  I created a new slide, still appears, but on all 3 choices.  This morning I created a new file from blank slide, each choice was created independently - no copy/paste.  Worked for maybe 10 previews.  Went to a meeting.  Did a preview, shadows on all 3 choices.  I don't know how they appear and I don't know how to get rid of them.

  • That is a glow, storyline always assigns a glow to a selected state that is created by a trigger

  • Hi ElizabethPat123!

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue with the playback of Question Slides in Storyline!

I'm having some trouble replicating the same behavior when testing on my end. Not to worry! I'm happy to help troubleshoot and have some follow-up questions to get us started.

    • Does this behavior only occur when previewing the course? Or can it also be observed in the published output?
    • Have you tried performing a repair of your Storyline installation to see if that corrects the issue?
    • Is your .story file stored on your local hard drive? Authoring directly off of a network drive can introduce erratic behavior.

If you're still having trouble, it would be helpful to see a copy of the affected project file. Do you mind uploading that here in the discussion or through a support case so we can take a closer look?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

      Thanks Steven!

I think I fixed it. For some reason, the text box created its own selected state. It doesn't need a state because the circle has the hover and selected states, not the text box.  The text box and the circle are grouped so the user can select the text box or circle to answer the question. Once I deleted the selected state on the text box, the shadow went away.  Don't know why Storyline created the text box selected state.

      To answer your questions:
It happens in Preview and when published to LMS
I updated my Storyline.  Our Storyline updates require a call to IT and 30 minutes of trial and error.  This time it took 2 hours.  But it is otherwise working.
I only use a local network drive.  Agree: Too slow and too squirrelly on a network drive.

If you group an object and then add that as your object to a question slide all objects inside a group will get a selected state.

You will need too be careful with accessibility as you will need to add the text to the group and delete all the separate objects from the focus order.

Check the Selected state of each choice and remove any shadow. Also, reset the text box to default style and ensure theme text effects (Home → Text Effects → Shadow) are set to None. This should remove the unwanted shadow.
