Text-to-Speech - Not connecting

Good afternoon,

I have been trying to edit previous text-to-speech items and continue to receive the following error message: Unable to connect. Check your internet connection and try again.

I also tried to add a new text-to-speech item and received the same message. I installed a previous version and attempted both steps, receiving the same message in both instances. Does anyone know if text-to-speech is currently unavailable or when it may be fixed?

My coworker is also experiencing the same issue.

Thank you!

  • Hi Lauren,

I'm now experiencing this same issue. My internet is fine, and when I close out and back in, I can do one more text-to-speech and then it does it again on the next slide. Thoughts?

      Hi Cindy,

I'm sorry for the trouble. We had a minor outage with the text-to-speech feature yesterday but our engineering team has since fixed this. Let us know if you are still experiencing the issue!

      Hello Gina,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble with Text-to-speech. Thank you for reaching out to our support team, as well.

I see that my colleague Robby suggested logging out and back into the Articulate 360 desktop app. This step also helped others who encountered the same issue over the holidays.

I encourage you to continue troubleshooting with Robby until the issue is resolved.

  • Hi there,

I've experienced this same work stoppage since yesterday. I've tried all of the steps here, short of the uninstall/reinstall. Is this a currently known issue?

      Hi StephanieCrouch,

Thanks for sharing what you’ve tried so far, that’s helpful context.

I did some testing on my end using the latest version of Storyline, and I was able to insert and edit both AI and standard text-to-speech without any issues. Based on that, this may be something specific to your setup rather than a current outage.

To help narrow things down, could you share a bit more about what you’re seeing? For example, does the error appear right away when opening Text-to-Speech, or only after entering text? And does it happen in a brand-new project as well? It would also help to know whether you’re working with AI text-to-speech or the standard voices.

Since you’ve already worked through most of the steps in this thread, one thing that stands out is that you haven’t tried a reinstall yet. A quick repair or reinstall of Storyline 360 can often help resolve connection-related issues like this.

If the issue continues after a repair or reinstall, connecting with our Support team would be the best next step so they can take a closer look at your environment and network settings.

        Hi Eric,

        Thanks for following up!

The error appears only after entering text and then selecting insert. I attempted entering the same text in a new project, and encountered the same error. I am working with only the standard voices (our org doesn't use AI yet).

I will attempt a repair/reinstall, and then reach out to the Support team if the issue persists. Thank you!
