Textbox Property - Do Not Autofit does not seem to be working
In my story I am populating a textbox by using a reference to a variable. As I populate the variable, it automatically transfers the string data into a textbox.
The textbox property is DO NOT AUTOFIT. And Wrap text is also deselected.
The problem: I can type an endless number of (string) characters and the textbox keeps shrinking the font size of the characters once the initial set of characters reach the end of text box.
What setting am I missing that restricts the number of (String) characters that can be entered, and/or limits it to the size of the textbox.

I need to undo the "improvements"
You have a couple of options, Gerald.
- Access the backup version that was saved when you upgraded the text.
- Import your slides into a new project file.

I'm popping in to get back to the originally asked question, because I have a similar problem.
After some testing it seems to me, that the size of the textbox is rendered once, when the document is created, and can't be changed after that.
Can somebody verify this, or proof me wrong?I came up with this, when I tried to populate a textbox with variables that differ in size. Some with two sentences, some with eight to twelve sentences. And of course I do want to have the same font size for each 'value'.
Furthermore I wonder if that "upgrade for improvements"-thing is something for a transition to a new version of the autofit-properties. Because I dont understand, why one would design this mixed-up, irreversible update-solution as permament. Maybe someone can persuade and/or enlight me..?! ;)

I'm happy to help! It sounds like your question is, once the size of the textbox is rendered once when the document is created, can it be changed after that? If you've upgraded the project text, you can't revert back to the previous text settings from the original project. Instead, we automatically create a backup project without the upgraded text just in case you decide not to use the upgraded project text.

I totally agree with the final remark from Marcel. This upgrade-solution is very confusing.
I started working on a new project, based on an existing course. I then decided to give it a try with the text upgrade as it seems to be a good solution for translations. My reasoning: this new upgrade may reduce time spent to insert scroll panels for text objects that you do not want to change in font size and do not want to overflow in any direction.
Along the way of design, I miss the "shrink to fit" option at some instances. A very clear and obvious example is when pointing and naming elements in a visual. The name labels which are text objects need to be "fixed size" in order to prevent text covering the visual or other elements on the slide (after translation) but for a name label I do not want to add a scroll bar. In these cases I woud like to shrink the text to fit.
So, I will put in a feature request to add the overflow handling option "shrink to fit" for fixed size text objects. This cannot be very hard to implement.

I'll try to clearify my issues.
I do totally understand the process of upgrading the project text, the backup-version and the possibilities of the configuration of text, before and after the upgrade. The HOW is clear, but I dont understand the WHY.
My question is apart from the understanding of the 'upgrade'. It even doesn't matter if I work with the 'normal' or the 'upgraded' text.
And to be honest I think I also got the how but not the why, in this case..As mentioned in this old article, I have to take care, that my textbox is large enough to show all possible lengths of my text, without resizing the text.
But that keeps me from using 'shape fill' as bg-color for the textbox (f.e.), if I dont want to have large spaces with color for no reason.
I was hoping, that the 'upgraded' autofit-property 'Expand height' could solve this. But it still renders the size of the textbox once, when the (published) document is created and if the content of the variable changes, the size of the surrounding textbox stays the same.Or maybe I am missing something?!
Oh, let me add quickly, that I am aware, that there is the way in the 'upgraded project text' to keep the size. 'Fixed sizes' + scrollbars prevent the text from shrinking, but from a UX-perspective its more a workaround, than a satisfying solution.
Scrollbars are always kind of "oh.. scrolling... naah to much text.."And at this point I dont understand, why the option 'Allow text to overflow' dont let the text overflow. It makes the text shrink again..

Thank you for the feedback! I understand what you're looking for is the option to make the textbox large enough to show all lines of the text without resizing the text. This is an eleven year old bug and still present. I've selected "do not autofit" and ... storyline still changes the text sizes to fit. I can in principle make the text box much bigger, but there are other problems with that (eg the drag and drop intersections get silly).
Can I please ask for the "do not autofit" option to be fixed so that it does not autofit
