The setting of the inbuilt variable Player.BackgroundAudioVolume is not transferred into exported video

Hello :)

I created a short explanatory video with Storyline 360 and I use Text-to-Speech. Additionally I use background music. I changed the inbuilt variable setting of Player.BackgroundAudioVolume to 20 in order to hear the voice-over properly. In the preview it works but when I export the slides as a video the background music volume is as high as 100. Are variable settings not included in the export of videos? Or what did I do wrong? I am looking forward to solutions or ideas, thank you in advance :)

  • Hi Miriam,

    Happy to chime in!

The Storyline 360 course Player is excluded when a course is published to video. This is why your triggers that reference the built-in variable "Player.BackgroundAudioVolume" do not affect the published video output. Any Player references are automatically excluded when a course is published to video so please keep this in mind when publishing future projects in video format.

    Hope this helps!

I experienced the same issue. So, you have a feature that doesn't translate to the finished product? Why would you do that? And how do I get the background music volume correct on a finished product?

      Hello Nicole,

Publishing to video is only used when you want your entire Storyline course to exclude interactivity. From our help article, "Interactive triggers simply won’t work when publishing a course to a video file.".

If you need to keep the functionality of your course's triggers, including those that reference built-in variables such as "Player.BackgroundAudioVolume", please publish your course to either Web or LMS instead.
