timeline end adjustment not working

Is anyone else having trouble shortening the end of a slide timeline? I can extend the entire timeline but I cannot shorten it. The cursor shows the entire timeline is selected (versus just a single object), but it will not shorten the entire timeline at all??? Help please!

Update - I did discover that if I select all the items on the timeline and shorten them together I am then able to drag the timeline end back to the end of the items. This is a change from prior versions where selecting the timeline end and dragging it backwards would move the time on all lines simultaneously.

Is this "new" way the only way now to reduce the timeline end of a slide? THANKS!
