Translating Storyline Courses into Spanish

I have 13 Articulate Storyline courses that need to be translated into Spanish. In addition to the text on the slides:
  • Each course is 50 - 100 slides long.
  • Each slide has: an individual (or multiple) audio file, closed captions and Notes.
  • There are several Engage activities in each course.
  • There are several videos in each course.
  • There are several knowledge checks in each course.
Due to budgetary constraints, the stakeholders want me to sit next to a Spanish-speaking person and make manual translations. I believe that is an unreasonable request.

I also believe the best solution is to contract with a Spanish-speaking ID who has Storyline skills and provide the files to that person to translate.

There are also other options:
* Manual export of a Word doc into a translatable file that can be uploaded after translation. (I would still need to sit next to a Spanish-speaking person for all of the "tweaking" that needs to take place.)
* AI translation tools are an option as well as translation companies.

The last three options don't take into account that closed captions are not translated in the exported file (although I believe Notes are). How do you typically translate closed captions in Storyline?

These are "click-through" courses. There is not one audio file that runs throughout (each slide has it's own).
As you can tell, I've never done this before. Any recommendations on a the best way to accomplish this?
  • Hello Kim,

I have a solution that uses Amazon Translate to translate Storyline courses - course content, slide notes, and captions.

If you would like more information, please let me know by either a private message or reach out to me on LinkedIn.

Speaking as a Spanish teacher, at least you would have a guaranteed job for the rest of your life.  :)

I would agree with you, Walt--except the deadline is 6 weeks from now. :(

  • Kim, did you ever find a good solution to your problem? My team needs to translate courses that sound similar to yours. What worked best for you?
