*Update - Storyline issue - Textboxes

Hello,

I have a fixed-size textbox that displays text as inputted by a learner.

I need the text to overflow passed the textbox boundaries (similar to a program that this course is mimicking).

When I right-click the textbox and select Format Shape, at the Text Box tab, I have:

  • Selected "Do not autofit"
  • Unchecked the box for "Wrap text"

My issue is that the text will still continue to shrink the overflow to fit within the textbox size, and appears to be wrapping the text within as well.

*Update

My textboxes have 3 options under the Autofit Heading. (Wrap text checked)

  • Do not autofit
  • Shrink text on overflow
  • Resize shape to fit text

No matter what option I choose, the textbox will shrink the overflow text (seemingly selecting option 2 in the background).

I'm hoping to confirm if this is an isolated issue on my end or if this is happening to others.

Thanks!

  • Hi Element50!

Happy to share some insight on this!

After a previous update of Storyline 360, text auto-fit improvements are no longer enabled by default. You may have noticed the 'Upgrade Project Text' option as well. Enabling this option provides the author with two additional settings:

    • Add scroll bars
    • Allow text to overflow

However, if I'm understanding your request, you are attempting to simulate text overflow behavior as seen in other applications such as Microsoft Excel? Where text is allowed to overflow continuously, but remain on a singular line?

If so, then Storyline does not support that level of text formatting.

If you are referring to a different type of design, and are comfortable sharing your .story file, feel free to upload that file here in the discussion or privately through a support case.

We'd be happy to take a closer look at your build and offer suggestions!

    Hello StevenBenassi

Thanks for your response. You're right; I'm trying to allow the learner to overflow text as in the Excel example you presented. Thank you for confirming that Storyline does not support this type of formatting.

I may be back once I have more of my design completed haha! I'm very new to Storyline and I'm only testing some features at this time.

    Thanks again!
