Uploading old modules to Storyline 360

I have a module I made in Articulate storyline 3 in 2021. How do I upload it to storyline 360 so I can access it online? Every time I open the old module, it opens up in Articulate on my personal desktop. I don't see an upload preexisting modules function within Storyline 360.

Thank you!

  • LauraHolly : Because the old module was created in Storyline 3, you'll have to re-create it in Rise 360 if you want to use that app going forward.

There's no way to automatically transfer a Storyline file into Rise.

I think I understand. To clarify, if I want this old module to be accessible in Rise 360, I would need to re-create it in Rise 360? Is that true even if I have more than the folder of the published files for the old module? (I was the one who originally created this module)

    Thank you!

  • LauraHolly : When you say "all members of my team can access and edit it from any computer," that sounds like Rise 360, the online app that is part of the Articulate 360 suite.

Storyline 360 is a desktop app. A .story file can be opened by anyone who has Storyline 360 installed on their computer.

As I said in my previous reply, Articulate recommends opening .story files from a local hard drive. If multiple people need to edit it, a .story file can be uploaded to an online location; it should be downloaded before being opened. Thus, it's important to have a good process to ensure all updates are maintained (that is, ensure that no one overwrites an updated file with another version).

As I also said, if all you have of the old module is the folder of published files, you'll have to start from scratch to create an editable version in Storyline or Rise.

    Hi Judy,

I'd like the old module to "live" in Storyline 360 if that makes sense. That way all members of my team can access and edit it from any computer. The way that modules we create within Storyline 360 are.  So not the published file.

  • I'm not clear on exactly what you're trying to open.

If you have a .story file created in Storyline 3, you should be able to open it with Storyline 360. As per Articulate's recommendations, .story files should always be opened on a local hard drive.

If you have the published files of a course, you should be able to play the course with any browser—that is, unless the course is so old that it uses Flash. (Flash was discontinued years ago, and browsers won't run it anymore.)

You cannot revert published to an editable .story file. The best you can do is collect the photos and other media files from within the set of published files, and then use those to create a new version of the course in Storyline 360.
