Videos wont play automatically

We have just resolved this issue on one of our courses! So I just wanted to share the solution to this old post for those reading this far and still seeing the problem.

Essentially we had the first page of the course a splash page (with no video) transitioning automatically into a second page which was a video with autoplay turned on. The video refused to play regardless of all the workarounds posted. 

We found that we had to create a start button on the first page rather than automatically transitioning to the next page. This then allowed the video to autoplay on the following page.

The reason this was happening for us (IMO) is that Chrome and some other browsers do not allow for the autoplay of video content within embedded media until you interact with the media. This is why you had to click on the video to make it play, however, if you have previously clicked on an interaction (like a button for example) then the browser allows for the autoplay function from there onwards. 

It was a frustrating 'bug' for us as all the other videos worked within the course except for the first one.
