Younger Characters

I am developing courses for a younger audience, and really need younger characters for this. I see it's been a feature request for years. Does anyone use an alternative source of images beyond Articulate? It seems a bit bizarre that this feature request seems to have been pushed back for so long.

  • Hi Viv!

Thanks for sharing that you'd like to see younger characters in our Content Library! We just released new characters in December and are continuing to add others, so I will share your request with our team to let them know that you'd like to see young children included in the selection. I'll update you in this discussion when I have an update to share.

  • Agreed! I am developing courses for teenagers in high school and need to use their peers in scenarios. Please add me to the list of course developers with this immediate need. Thanks!

  • The more specific one's request is for certain character traits, the more likely it is that filling the request will require licensing characters from a company that focuses on that service, buying images from a stock photo agency, or even paying for a custom photo shoot.

Here are two sites that provide cut-out characters:
    •    https://elearningart.com/
    •    https://www.elblearning.com/create-learning/asset-library/cutout-people

Note: Cut-out characters from other sources are put into Storyline via Insert > Picture (not Insert > Character).

These sites offer free cutout characters: Freepik, Vecteezy, Vectorstock, and paid subscriptions - see their terms for usage, license, legal.  Quite a few of the biggest stock sites do offer 'cheap' subscriptions. The added bonus with a subscription is that in general the company *always check their terms* takes legal responsibility for copyright violations etc., if your usage is within their terms.

Thanks, Judy! Despite being in eLearning for a while, and doing some internet searches, I didn't know about these sites. You have the most valuable answer in this thread!

      Thanks, Judy! That's very helpful.

It's very frustrating that I would have to get my boss to pay for an additional service when we are already paying for Articulate. Which should have these types of assets included...It is unacceptable that they don't.

  • Hi,

Still no teen/child characters...There are many scenarios where the training requires interactions with teens or children. My case is research ethics training, specifically conducting assent conversations, but no doubt there's more, as the comments make clear. Even sets of illustrated characters would be a start. Boy teen, boy child, girl teen, girl child, illustrated, in a suite of poses. This can't be that hard. Photos to come later would be great too. These need to be in Storyline and Rise. Please get on this. I am always having to find workarounds that are not as effective.
