New Rise Feature - Exit Course
Many of you told us you needed a way for Rise learners to return to your LMS. So we've added a few features that make that super easy.
You can now set buttons in block lessons to leave the course, or add an ever-present link that lets learners return to an LMS.
Check out this Peek video describing the features:

We seem to have had issues with reporting back to our LMS from adding a button that is set to 'Exit the course (LMS only)'. The exit course link in the scorm file works, but the button doesn't? These should both have the same function, shouldn't they? Trying to get to the bottom of the issue as having a button looks better and is more satisfying to users as Andreea says. Hoping to get answers here as LMS aren't providing any.
Hi there,
I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble getting the button to work. Did you try uploading your course to SCORM Cloud to see if you experience the same behavior?
That's what we generally recommend doing to determine whether the problem stems from the course or the LMS. Here's an article that walks you through how to do that.
If it works correctly on SCORM Cloud, then the problem is coming from the LMS and you'll need to talk to your provider.
If you see the same issue on SCORM Cloud, then the problem is likely coming from the course itself. If that's the case, please reach out to our support team.
In the meantime, if there's anything else I can do to help, please let me know!

Hi Allison! I tested in scorm cloud and that worked fine. I have removed the button with the 'Exit course (LMS)' destination and the LMS now seems to be reporting correctly?! I would prefer to have the button so need to investigate with the LMS further as I don't believe the issue is with Rise. On another note- in the scorm export, what is the difference between passed/incomplete and complete/incomplete? Thanks :)
Hi Paula,
The exit course feature wasn't available when Rise first launched in November 2016. So it's a new feature available now that will function similarly to what you had used in Storyline before.
Hope that helps and let us know if you need anything else!

Hi Ashley,
We use TOPYX and no I haven't contacted them about it, if using the Rise Exit button we get a page with 'Thank you for exiting the content. You may now navigate away from this content.' displayed, If we exit by closing the tab it goes back to the LMS with out an additional page.
The same behavior was happening with material produced in Storyline until I used window.top.close javascript or modified the configuration.js to ALWAYS_CLOSE_TOP.
Therefore I assume the Rise exit button is using ALWAYS_CLOSE, which doesn't work with our LMS.
Hi Keith,
I uploaded your course to SCORM Cloud, and you can view it here. The exit course button functioned for me, in that at I was able to launch the course and use that button to have the course close out. Can you give it a test and if you're seeing something that isn't working as you'd expect let me know a bit more information about what's happening, the browser you're using, etc.?
Bailey, we'd love to take a look at your course link - if you want to share it here in the community feel free or send it along to our Support Engineers here.

I think there might have been some gremlins in it yesterday. Works fine today.

I would like some sort of message to show once the quiz is done/passed or failed. Under the Exit Course (LMS) options, i see the option that says Bye (hand wave) and You may now leave this page. Where and When do these messages display? I can't seem to get them to show up when I'm done with the quiz.
Any help is appreciated
Hi Mat! Depending on your LMS, when you exit the course using either a button or the Exit Course link, you may see that messaging before closing the Rise window. Some LMSs will use the "goodbye" messaging, and some will just close the window when you click to exit the course.
Have a look at my Peek to see exactly what I mean.
For your quiz, could you add some instructions to your users in the quiz description field to use the Exit Course link when they've finished?
I can answer that one! They're simply two different ways to report the same status to your LMS. Some LMS providers look for a "Passed" state when a learner finishes a course. Others look for "Complete." Which you choose depends on your LMS. We go into deeper detail here if you're interested.
Hope that helps! Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Cool feature. You said in the video that the "ever present" exit button communicates to the LMS that the learning is done. It still respects the completion criteria that you have already set, correct?
That's correct, Gregory.

That's pretty sweet Adam!

How is this feature different from the trigger options in Storyline? I regularly add an Exit Course link to my player or a button on my summary screen. Was this not an option at all in Rise?

If they stop early will it send back info to remember where they left off - as was the case from Storyline 2?
