Great, more Software as a Service (SaaS). With all the tools going this way designing, creating and developing (Adobe, Articulate - now Go Animate) - what freelancer has the budget?
Moho (Anime Studio) seems like a good animation option also. But it is not for the novice cookie-cutter animator/developer and is more time consuming.
Great content. Is it possible to get a sample SCORM export of this, that we can test on our LMS mobile app? We are using Successfactors mobile app for iOS and Android.
We have seen some problems with scrolling in Rise content not working only when iPhone is held in landscape mode. Works in portrait mode and works on Android too.
I've always thought story-based learning was far more effective than reading a list of facts. Not just for the workplace but also K-12. I wish K-12 textbooks would utilize the approach. So, why don't they? If training and learning were more effective via story, then why don't corporations and educators use it more? My guess is that it's more expensive ... the instructional designers and writers have to think more!
Very well done. How long does it take roughly for you to create a 2 minute animation like the ones you created in this lesson?
(Sorry to post this question twice)
Glad you like it! Including script writing, recording narration, and building it all in GoAnimate, it probably takes about 1-2 hours at most. Once you get in a groove of doing it, it goes pretty quickly.
Awesome tutorial, Mike! I found it extremely helpful and well developed. I wouldn't expect anything less since you I'm familiar with your work. You were one of my professors when I completed my Masters in IDT at Emporia State University.
Hi Twanica. Thanks and I do indeed remember you! A stellar student who really got instructional design! I'm getting ready to begin a Doctorate of Instructional Design and Performance Technology program that Dr. Childress developed for Baker University. Pretty excited about taking it to the next level.
That's awesome! Congratulations! I bet it will be a great program, coming from Dr. Childress! I wish you continued success. Once again, thanks for sharing this awrsome tutorial.
Great example Mike!
I am a huge GoAnimate fan. It's very easy to use and can add so much to an eLearning course. I've been using GoAnimate in almost all of my courses and have gotten such good feedback about how engaging our courses are because of the video animations. It's worth every penny and is the best video animation software I've tried.
Glad you liked it Megan. Here's another demo I made with GoAnimate as a lead in to training on how to determine change for a purchase which can then be practiced in Storyline for the interactivity.

Hmmm... wondering why it was flagged, but I was able to click the link and LOVE how you incorporated the questions with the video. It doesn't even feel like you are using 2 separate applications. A seamless experience - thanks for sharing!
Great approach Mike and liked your tutorials. I've been so used to the traditional eLearning landscape style navigation, that I am still wondering if the RISE portrait navigation (up/down) adds any significant value to the end user.
How about adding some "practice" after watching the story? I suppose that depends on the learning objectives.
