Storyline 3: Using the Font Formatting Options

The text editor in Storyline 3 gives you complete control over text formatting and placement. In this user guide , we'll explore the font formatting features. For paragraph formatting options (alignment and spacing), see this user guide.

Working with the Font Tools

Select the text you want to edit, then go to the Home tab on the Storyline ribbon and use the Font formatting options.

Here are some tips for working with the font tools:

• Hover over the buttons in the Font group to see their functions.
• You can apply formatting to an entire text box, or to a single word or paragraph in the text box. To quickly select a word, just double-click it. To select a paragraph, triple-click any word in the paragraph.
• You can select multiple text boxes on a slide and format them all at once. Use Shift+click or Ctrl+click to select more than one text box, or click and drag around multiple text boxes. Then choose your formatting options.
• The colors in the font color selector are controlled by your theme colors. To customize them, see this user guide.
• For even more control over your text, right-click the text box, choose Format Shape, then select the Text Box tab on the left side of the window that appears. Learn more about formatting text boxes here.

Using the Font Window

Many of the same formatting tools on the ribbon (see above) can also be found on the Font window. Just select the text you want to edit, then click the arrow in the lower right corner of the Font group on the ribbon.

The following window will open where you can edit several font attributes.

Applying Consistent Text Formatting Throughout a Project

The format painter is a quick way to copy formatting from one object to another. If you've formatted a word or block of text with several attributes that you'd like to use elsewhere:

1. Select the formatted text.
2. Go to the Home tab on the ribbon and click Format Painter.
3. Click another text element to apply the same formatting to it.

If you need to apply the same formatting to multiple text elements, double-click Format Painter to keep it turned on. Click it once more to turn it off when you're done, or press the Esc key on your keyboard.

Another way to speed up your design work is to use theme fonts rather than formatting text elements individually. You can set up a default heading font and default body font so all new slides inherit the same fonts. Yet another shortcut is to leverage master slides. For guidance, see these user guides:
