The resume feature in Storyline 3 controls how learners experience your course when they view it more than once. You can customize the resume behavior so learners:

  • Start the course fresh every time
  • Start the course where they left off the last time they viewed it
  • Choose (via a prompt) whether to start over or resume where they left off

Choosing Your Resume Options

  1. To customize the resume behavior, go to the Home tab on the Storyline ribbon and click Player.
  2. When the Player Properties window appears, click Other on the ribbon.
  3. In the Resume section of the window, choose one of the following options from the On restart drop-down:

Prompt to resume

This option asks learners if they want to pick up where they left off.

Always resume

This option forces your course to open where learners previously left off. They won't see a prompt; the course will resume automatically.

Never resume

This option forces your course to start at the beginning, even if learners previously completed part of it. They won't see a prompt.

Changing the Wording on the Resume Prompt

If you've enabled a resume prompt, you can customize what it says. The text comes from your player's text labels. If you need help editing the text labels, see this user guide.

Saving Player Changes

When you click OK to close the Player Properties window, Storyline saves your player customizations in your project file.

If you'd like to use the same customizations in other projects, click Current Player on the ribbon and choose Save. Enter a name for your custom player if you're prompted and click OK.

To learn more about the Current Player options, see this user guide.
