Storyline 360: Formatting Pictures, Screenshots, and Characters

Brightness

Use this drop-down to change the brightness of the image.

Select one of the preset brightness levels or click Picture Correction Options to specify an exact value.

Contrast

Use this drop-down to adjust the contrast of the image.

Select one of the preset contrast levels or click Picture Correction Options to specify an exact value.

Recolor

Use this drop-down to recolor the image with a specific color.

Select one of the preset colors or click More Variations to choose a custom color.

You can also make part of your image transparent by choosing Set Transparent Color and clicking the area (color) that should be transparent.

Replace Picture

Use this option to swap out the current picture for a different one. All picture effects, animations, and triggers you applied to the original picture will also be applied to the new picture.

You can choose a picture file from your computer, a Content Library 360 photo, or an image from the media library.

This replacement option is grayed out for characters. To swap out one character for another, right-click the character and choose Replace Pose. You can also use the media library to replace characters in your project.

Reset Picture

Click this button to revert to the picture's original appearance.

To revert to its original appearance and original size, click the drop-down arrow and choose Reset Picture & Size. (Resetting picture and size also restores areas that were previously cropped.)

Picture Styles

Click a preset picture style to quickly change the appearance of an image or character.

Picture Shape

Use this drop-down to change the shape of your image or character. It'll be cropped to the shape you choose.

Picture Border

Use this drop-down to add a border to your image or character. Do any of the following to select the color for the border:

• Click the color you want in the spectrum area. Drag the hue slider to change the dominant color of the spectrum.
• Use the eyedropper tool to match the color of anything visible on your screen. Just click the eyedropper, then click any color on your screen.
• Create a custom color by entering the color value in Hex. Click Hex to use Red/Green/Blue (RGB) or Hue/Saturation/Light (HSL) values.
• Choose from three palette types: theme colors, project colors, or custom palettes, which include the standard colors palette by default, then select a square color swatch below it.

You can also change the border's thickness (Weight) and pattern (Dashes).

Picture Effects

Use this drop-down to apply a shadow, reflection, glow, or soft edges to your image. (The preset color choices for the glow effect come from your theme colors.)

Arrange

Click this drop-down list and use the available options to bring the selected object forward or send it backward.

Tip: Another way to change the layer order of objects is to use the timeline. All the elements in the timeline are listed in the same order in which they're layered on the slide—in other words, the topmost item in the list is the closest to the front (or top) of the slide. To change the order, just select an item on the timeline and drag it up or down the list.

Group

Grouping is a handy way to move, resize, rotate, flip, or change other attributes of several objects all at the same time—as if they were a single object.

To group objects, Shift+click two or more objects, then choose Group to group them.

To ungroup objects, choose Ungroup.

To regroup items that were previously part of a group, choose Regroup.

Rotate

Use this option to rotate selected objects. Choose one of the rotation options or click More Rotation Options to enter a specific rotation value.

Align

Click the alignment buttons to align objects to the slide or to one another.

If only one object is selected, the alignment buttons will align it to the slide.

If more than one object is selected, the alignment buttons will align the objects to each other.

If three or more objects are selected, you can use the last two alignment buttons to distribute the objects vertically and horizontally so they're evenly spaced.

Zoom Picture

When you resize an image in Storyline so it's smaller than the original, you can add a zoom icon to it, which lets learners see the original (larger) version of the image.

For example, if you insert an image that's 500 pixels by 500 pixels and you resize it to 250 pixels by 250 pixels, the zoom icon lets learners see the image at its original size of 500 pixels by 500 pixels.

Crop

Click this button to crop your image or character.

Drag the cropping handles on the image to change its dimensions.

To save your changes, click the Crop button again or click anywhere outside the image.

Position

Use the X and Y field to position objects on the slide. Just enter pixel values in the fields or use the spinners to adjust the values.

Size

Use the Width and Height fields to enter specific pixel values for the selected object(s).

Tip: By default, the aspect ratio is locked for pictures, screenshots, and characters. As a result, when you change the height, the width will automatically adjust to maintain the same aspect ratio.
