Making Learning Stick with Job Aids #486: Challenge | Recap

If there’s one surefire way to help your learners succeed—before, during, and after training—is by giving them effective job aids. Job aids are like cheat sheets for success. They can be anything from checklists and quick-reference guides to summaries, glossaries, FAQs, or worksheets.

They’re simple. They’re practical. And they work. They help learners remember what they’ve learned and use it when they need it most. It’s all about making learning stick. And that’s what this week’s challenge is all about.

🏆 E-Learning Challenge of the Week

This week’s e-learning challenge is to create a performance support tool, such as a worksheet, job aid, or another resource that helps learners apply what they’ve learned in an e-learning course. You can build it around an existing project or create something entirely new.

Short on time? No worries. Try one of the Rise real content templates to get started quickly and keep things simple.

  • Hello!

As a busy parent and learning manager, I'm a big fan of checklists - the original job aid!

Here's an interactive CHRISTMAS CHECKLIST, which also doubles as a printable resource.

Bonus points if you can guess the movie that inspired this.

Frankly, I don't know what cheat sheets or worksheets are exactly. I suppose it's different from person to person. So I've concentrated on providing a complete work, memory and performance aids tool. But I've already made a notebook (or two) in the previous demos. And yesterday I thought it would be nice to be able to copy and paste text directly from the course into the notebook. So here's the ‘quick notes’ option.
How does it work? Just click on a text in the course (only 2 slides) and that's it!
Open the notebook using the icon at the top right of the screen and find the text in the ‘quick note’ box. Including text in a marker panel, in a pop-up, or an image description, etc. You can copy all or part of the text, edit it, condense it and paste it into one of the dozens of sections of the notebook to keep it organized. There are other options for personalising ‘your’ notebook, such as using post it notes, or giving a title to a blank section and starting to write a note. Give it a try! One last thing: you can flip through the notebook by sliding the pages (5 double pages available). I think there are dozens of ways to improve it, and customise it to your own project.
(I need to clean up the .story file a bit, but I'll be sharing it very soon)

Wednesday: The .story file is now attached to the Review.

This is my first time participating in the eLearning Heroes Challenge. Unfortunately, I didn’t have as much time as I would have liked, but I had fun creating a little cheat sheet in the form of questions. I wish I could have done more, but that will be for the next challenge!

    Keep your Christmas Tree Fresh!

Looking forward to #487...my favorite challenge of the year! Though Mocha Mousse makes me feel "Meh". I liked that they did an homage to Peach Fuzz in the transition. Working on something now. :)

DavidAnderson Thanks for another fun challenge!

Sharing my Christmas-themed task prioritization activity and matching job aid. You can help Santa's elves sort workshop tasks while learning productivity skills.

  • Here is a quick example. I wanted to do something interactive while being able to have something to print out for reference. I work in a healthcare environment so having a cheat sheet for common security risks could be helpful.

One thing I learned early on was to let the learner know that another window will open when clicking on the download. Tell them that they must come back to the module to get credit for taking it.

    Product Comparison

    Demo: Mary's Medicinals

When I saw this topic last week I had just come home from a frustrating experience with a sales associate at a place called the Palm Royal Collective here in my town. When I worked in Brand Management we created product comparison sheets all the time to help field sales professionals explain product features and benefits to customers. At PRC I asked the sales associate to explain the difference between 3 different products. I guess I was asking too many questions and he finally said to me "I can't teach you in 10 minutes what it took me 5 years to learn."  (Why not? I wondered. :)) So instead of walking out I bought all three (for about $240).  I made this job aid to simulate  how I might explain the products, based on publicly available information.  The 4th slide has the meat of the job aid info, and I used the player frame for a active ingredients and a glossary. Have a great week!

Hello everyone! This is a small project where users can browse through a course, take notes, review them, and print them. Unfortunately, the page-flipping effect is still quite rudimentary, despite some experiments with emphasize animations.

      Hi Hilla,

I think there might be an error on your project. I tried to click on the "Explore" button but nothing happens. I just want to let you know. 😉

Update : Never mind, I found my mistake. I was not clicking at the right place. Sorry!
