No System Audio

I am trying to screen record a short video clip on-line so that I can clip it into an e-learning course. I can't see an option to capture the system audio, only the microphone audio on the laptop, which is useless because it is also picking up all the background sound. Any ideas?

  • I have just found out with astonishment that the 2 screen recording tools included the Articulate Suite do not record internal audio...Digging in the community discussions I realize that this problem was reported even 10 years ago! I think you shoud focus on having only one tool, but one that is fully functional.

  • Hi Mark,

    Thanks for reaching out!

There is currently no option to change the audio input of Storyline 360's screen recording to the system audio. If you're using screen recording to capture an online video, a better alternative would be asking for a copy of the video instead, and editing it in Replay 360

Having a system audio input available for screen recording sounds like a great feature to have. I’ll be happy to pass this on to our product team, but you can also feel free to detail them more through a feature request!

    Hi Mark,

This is something I've been trying to work around also, and have found success using Storyline 360. Slightly more involved than just working through replay but it works perfectly.

Either starting a new project and then jumping to the Slides tab and choosing the Screen Record option, or choosing to screen record directly from the opening home screen yields the same results.

From the Option bar select the Settings Icon and you'll see that you can disable your mic while enabling a speaker option. Ensure you choose the correct speaker option here. After clicking ok, you'll notice the Option bar says "No Audio" because it only ever shows the Mic option...which we've disabled.

Once you have your video recorded, you can publish as a video in MP4 format.

I know your original question asked about Replay, but just in case you have Storyline available I wanted to share!

  • Hi, Spencer!

Thank you for sharing your solution here. I'm sure others in the E-Learning Heroes community will find this helpful!
