Setting output size in Articulate Replay?

Hi all,
Apologies if this has been asked before - I've searched but I can't find anything. I'm trying to make some short training videos which are basically just screen captures of me using a piece of software and talking over it. One of the pieces of software is for mobile devices. I'm 'faking it' by running it on my PC and resizing the window to approximate a phone screen - but the video output from Replay is coming out at 900x1200, even though I was recording a 900x500 window. This video is intended to be watched on a phone, so with the extra sidebars it's making the actual content too small to view easily.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hi Kerry. My team and I noticed some inconsistency with the output size as well. I was able to replicate the behavior of Replay adding width to my project -- I could even see black bars on the side of the preview while working in Replay.
I'm going to document this behavior to see if we can understand why this is happening some of the time. I'll keep you updated here with any new information that I get. I don't have a workaround at this time, but I'll let you know if I discover one.
Thanks Crystal.
In the meantime, does anyone know of any software that will allow me to achieve what I need?
I am having issues with my recording output too, but mine is recording from the outside of the top right corner of the intended area. The inside on the bottom left is omitted with the recording.
Is that to do with the scaling in Windows 10? I've got mine set to 100% where Windows recommends 125%, but that means that everything is the right size when I capture an area
Hi Rachael,
Are you using dual monitors? We've seen that cause some issues with how a screen is cropped while recording, and it's recommended to disconnect from or only project to one monitor while recording.
I'm guessing that there's no movement on this yet? I've found a workaround for the time being: I capture the screen in Storyline 2, then publish it as html and pull the video file from the output folder. The aspect ratio is correct, but I have to be a bit creative with opening and closing windows to give me intro and outro slides. Also the whole thing has to be one take so that there aren't multiple video files... it's nervewracking! :)
Hi Kerry,
Thanks for checking in. We’re still looking into this Replay behavior, and we’ll definitely let you know when we know more.
Sorry to hear the workaround is cumbersome, but hopefully it'll work for you in the meantime.
I'm having the issue above as well. Windows 10 operating system, I've changed the screen resolution multiple times and DPi to 100%. There is no way to get Replay to capture only the area you would like it to capture, and even if you do, sometimes your mouse clicks don't match up. I've also been looking through conversations about this issue starting three years ago. How can there be no resolution to this issue in that amount of time? You have to expect that users will work from multiple displays when recording content. Many of us follow a script when recording material. Please resolve this issue, or have a better way of communicating settings that need to be adhered to in order for your application to work!
Hi there! I came across this conversation happenstance today as I am once again searching for a resolution to this issue, and trying to figure out how to combat it. If anyone from Articulate staff sees this thread, can you please post an update? Has anything improved with screen resolution issues and Articulate Replay?
Hi Kerry, if I respond directly to you, will you see this thread again? Thanks!
Hi Shawna!
Thanks for checking in! We are still tracking and documenting customer impact for this bug in Replay. Our team is prioritizing other features and bug fixes at this moment so I don't have a timeline to share for this bug fix.
When I do, I'll make sure to report back to this discussion.
Any news on this? I'm facing the same issues due not being able to customize the canvas size in Replay. Thank you :)
Doesn't look like it! I've not checked in here for quite a while actually; quite disappointing to see a reply that's basically saying "we've got more important stuff to do do we don't know when we'll get to this".
Since Storyline stopped working with the demise of Flash, I haven't upgraded yet as I'm still waiting for the go-ahead from my boss; in the meantime I've been using a free program called Flashback Express which is pretty good for screen capture.
Thanks for following up, Susana & Kerry!
I'm sorry that this is affecting your workflow. We are continuing to investigate this issue further, and I've added your comments to our report to provide an update to this thread when we have news.
One of our community members, Jessica, confirmed this workaround was successful. If you'd like some confirmation or additional help with troubleshooting this, feel free to connect with a support engineer, and they can take a closer look!
I'm having similar trouble, intermittantly, please keep working on this, I love Rise and Replay, and use it for the same purpose as Kerry M, and this is keeping me from getting some courses ready to launch.
Hi Karen,
Thank you so much for your comments. We appreciate receiving this feedback from our customers so we can continue to make improvements that will beneficial to you!
