Audio does not play on the first slide of a scene

Jan 10, 2018

When viewed on mobile device (iPhone and Android tablet), the audio on the first slide in a scene does not play. When I advance to the 2nd slide in the scene, then the audio plays. When go back to 1st slide from 2nd slide, then the audio plays.  My .story file has 9 scenes. It was created in Storyline 360. This occurs both on Articulate Review and when published to SCORM and loaded to our LMS.

Hi all,

Thanks for your patience as we worked on a fix for the issue where audio tracks that should've played at the beginning of slides didn't always work in HTML5 output. That fix is in today's update of Articulate 360!

Take a look at the release notes here, and you can install the latest update from the Articulate 360 desktop tray application by clicking Update.

Hi Samantha,

I'm happy to work with you!

If the audio is on the first slide of your course, a play button may appear in Chrome. This article covers more details:

Clicking the play button starts the course and allows the audio to play. After learners visit the course once, they shouldn't see that button again.

Audio on other slides should autoplay (unless the slides are set to advance automatically without user interaction).

Let me know if you see something different. We'll troubleshoot from there!

I did see the play button in Chrome and I clicked it, but the audio for the first slide still did not play. I have found other discussions where this has happened to other users in the past. My workaround was to build a dummy slide with a silent audio track ahead of my welcome slide. I saw another thread which indicated starting the audio at 0.25 seconds would fix the issue as well. But right now, a workaround is absolutely necessary.

In addition to this issue, when I do either workaround, the issue is solved in Storyline preview as well as in a published SCORM file (I tested the fixes on SCORM Cloud) but in Review360 they don't consistently work. I have observed differences in audio behavior between Review360 and published files on multiple occasions. I know this is a different issue, but it's frustrating when you're trying to test the fixes.
