Hello Everyone,
I have some great news to share! We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 77, we've included important fixes and new features.
One of the enhancements we've included:
- Closed Captions disappear when timeline is paused using a trigger
Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let me know if you need additional help!

Hm, looking at this example here, I can pause the timeline (both the video timeline and/or the slide timeline) and the CC's stay up. What am I missing?
that's weird, your works fine for me. Here is my example, check how it works for you.

There must be a setting I'm missing or something.
Hi Tomas,
I see that the captions are disappearing, although upon playing again they appear and seem to match what they're supposed to.
Can you share a copy of this .story file so that we can take a look at any differences in the set up?
Hi, Ashley
Here's the .story file.
Hello Tomas and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
Thanks for sharing your .story file and allowing us to take a look.
We have an issue reported for this same issue. I'm going to share this thread and your file as an additional example while we investigate. It seems specific to the HTML5 version, which includes the Preview as well.
Michael - was your course published with a version prior to Update 15 perhaps? I noticed yours works as intended.
Yes, my example was created and published when CC first came out. That was a while ago, no idea which SL360 version/update I used back then.
Thanks Michael.
Looks like Update 4 :) So, that was a while back for sure.
Hi all,
I have the same problem but only since I installed the recent update. With Build 3.3.15007.0 it worked fine and captions stayed visible when having paused the timeline.
Hi again, Martin!
I recently responded to your other post here, but I see the issue is captions are disappearing when you pause the timeline (not when the timeline ends).
As Leslie mentioned in her previous reply, we're working through a problem in Storyline 360 where the closed caption text disappears when the video is paused.
I'm really sorry this is slowing you down, and I'll be sure to let you know if I get an update on this issue.
Hello... I am facing the similar issue. Could you please suggest the solution.
Hello,
We started facing this issue with the recent update Build 3.4.15731.0. It was working fine with the last release. Any timeline for getting the solution?
Hey folks,
Our team is still investigating an issue where the closed caption text disappears when the video is paused. This happens in both Storyline 3 and Storyline 360.
You're in the right place to stay up to date on our progress with this bug!
Hello Alyssa,
Any idea when can the fix will be available? We are in need of it urgently as many of our courses have CC which are always visible.
Hi Ashish,
I don't have an ETA on a fix at this point, but as soon as we know more, we'll share it here. Really sorry for the headaches this is causing you!
Hi Alissia,
I'he the same problem.
I have courses with scorm created with old release and here captions stay even when video is paused but there are some scorm created with new release in which this doesn't happen.....very bad to see...Waiting for the fix of this issue, do you think is possible to create a button that allows to leave the subtitle even when the video is paused?
Thank you
Hi Cristina,
You're in the right place for an update when we have one to share.
There is not a way to trigger the built-in player options, but you could manually build it if needed. This thread could help you get started.
Hi Leslie,
I don't want to trigger the built in player, and I know I can do it but the problem is always the same....when video is in pause captions disappear. It's a big problem for me..
I have many courses where the captions were always visible, even with the video "paused" until a few months ago (february). Now some scorms have been re-created with new release because I did some graphic variations, but they have lost the ability to make the captions visible when the videos are paused. My clients are negatively surprised and I do not know how to proceed. Maybe can I uninstall the latest version of storyline and then install an older version? but would the files created with last release always be readable with older version?
Thanks for the further details Cristina.
I've opened up a support case on your behalf so that you can work directly with a support engineer on the possibility of a previous version as you mentioned.
You should be hearing from someone soon via e-mail.
Just chiming in here that it is happening to my client's now as well. Seems to just affect Chrome users at the moment.
Storyline 360 v3.19.166600.0
Thanks for letting us know this is affecting you as well, Diarmaid. We've prioritized a fix for this problem, and we'll notify you as soon as it's resolved!
I just took a look at the changes made with the release 3.4.15731.0 (Storyline 3). Could it be that solving the problem with the overlapping subtitles (see the 4th item in the list of changes for the release 3.4.15731.0) has caused our problem?
I have a 10 minute movie with subtitles, when I pause the movie the subtitles disappear. This occurs when viewed in all browsers, by the look of this thread it is a bug, I was hoping I had missed something. When might a proposed fix for this be issued to Storyline 3 users?
Just tested it in IE and FireFox to check, Andy is right. I don't think our client's noticed it yet as they typically turn the CC on and leave it on.
Hi everybody
I confirm that with the previous version that I used in February 2018 the problem did not exist. I uninstalled the current version, installed the oldest one, and now the subtitles remain visible even if the video is paused. But I do not have to make updates!
My current project relies on the closed captioning not disappearing when movie is paused. I currently use Storyline 3, if I download Storyline 2 and reoutput, do you think this will solve my problem?
