Changing state of object back to normal in drag and drop

May 17, 2021

Hi everyone,

I have realised that when a user drags an object out of its drop target and puts it back in its starting place, the object automatically assumes the state of 'drop incorrect'.  I have searched the other discussions and found that this is the setting for the freeform drag and drop - i.e. when the objects is dropped ANYWHERE outside its drop target, it takes on the 'drop incorrect' state, even if it is not dropped on one of the other, actual incorrect drop targets.  Is there any way to get the object to revert to its normal, original state when being dragged back to its place (as it does when it is automatically sent back to its place when another item knocks it out of the drop target - i.e. when the form is set to 'only allow one object in each drop target')?

Thanks - any help is appreciated!

Hi Dan,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your experience! You're correct in that a drag item will switch to a Drop-Incorrect state if it's dropped anywhere outside of the correct drop target.

There isn't a way to reset that outside of replacing the drag item with another, but you may consider the option to delay the states until the item is submitted under your Drag & Drop Options. This will keep the drag item in a Normal state until the learner selects the Submit button.

I hope this helps clarify the behavior!
