Course Completion Error

Nov 17, 2021

Hello. I am making a course where the client would like the completion of the course to be based on the % of slides viewed, but would also like the question result data (questions are scattered throughout the course) to be sent to the LMS.

In order to accomplish this, I have done the following:

On the results slide, I set up a slide trigger to submit the results when the timeline starts on that slide, but only if Project.SlidesViewed > X.

For the LMS tracking options, I selected both "When the learner has viewed..." and "When the learner completes a quiz..." options.

The issue I am encountering is that when a user exits the course after having answered 1 or 2 questions,  the course is already being marked as Complete in the LMS.

Any thoughts as to how to troubleshoot this? Thank you!

Hi, Cris.

Thank you for reaching out!

Take a look at this article for information on using Multiple Completion Criteria:

You will see the following:

If a learner completes multiple criteria, do they all get sent to the LMS?
No. Only one option gets sent to the LMS, even if a learner completes multiple criteria. The first tracking option that the learner completes is the one that gets sent to the LMS.

In your scenario, the first option completed is the quiz, so the user doesn't get a chance to get completion based on the slides viewed.

My suggestion would be to only track based on slides viewed, as you would still be able to see the user's responses.

I hope this helps!

Thank you for your response. A couple of follow up questions:

- You mentioned that in my scenario (i.e., the user exits after completing only 1 or 2 of the 15+ questions), the quiz is considered complete and so the user doesn't get a chance to get completion based on the slides viewed. Why is the quiz considered complete at that point?

- You mentioned that if I only track based on slides viewed, I would still be able to see the user's responses. Are you saying that with only the "track based on slides viewed" option enabled, the quiz responses can still be submitted to the LMS? If so, I am not sure how to do this. Could you elaborate on how this is done?

Thank you again!

Hello again. I have figured out the issue and am replying here in case it's helpful to anyone. The quiz was considered complete after 1 or 2 questions were answered because I had set the passing score to be 0%. I did this because the questions weren't supposed to matter toward the completion of the course. The problem with doing that, though, is that if the user answered a single question and then exited the course, whether they got it right or not, the course considered the quiz passed, since the passing score (0%) was achieved.
