Editing from Media Library with PhotoShop
Mar 27, 2019
I'm trying to blur out sensitive information from a StoryLine (SL) screen recording using PhotoShop (PS). I choose the image from the Media Library, click the Edit button, then select the option for PS. Whenever the file tries to open, PS yells at me with, "Could not complete your request because of a program error." I found that I can open the file in Paint, save as a jpg, edit in PS, save the file, then replace the original in SL, but this is way too many steps.
I tried to open in Illustrator, too, but got the message, "The file [file name].jpg is in an unknown format and cannot be opened."
I'm using a brand new computer and all software was purchased/installed within the last month or so.
Has anyone else had this issue and how did you solve it?
Thanks!

Hi Mike,
I use Photoshop CC 2019 and just inserted an image from Content Library 360, selected it in the Media Library and was able, via the Edit button, to open it for editing. I tried two other images selected from around the Content Library at random and they also worked OK.
If you are able to share a Storyline file with a couple of your images, I am happy to give them a go just in case they may be the cause of the problem.
I think this is a bug in the way the screen recording images are created, I just did a test and the images give me this error.
Evidently this is fairly common. Here's one solution: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/error-invalid-jpeg-marker-displays.html
Here's what works for me:
That's it. The image will now open correctly in Photoshop.
The preview trick doesn't work for me, if only life was that simple!
Did you open in Preview and Save? I edited my original post to include the save part.
Well it would only work if I had the correct steps ;-)
I added a discovery element to my steps.
Yep I discovered it didn’t work, it is similar to when I write a tutorial on javascript!
LOL

Hi,
I am having a similar issue with trying to edit my photos in Photoshop and then add them back to Articulate 360 Storyline. Here are my steps any suggestions?
In my Articulate Storyline project, I left-click on my image to open the Show in the Media library.
In the Show in Media library, I scroll down to the button of the screen and press edit, and from the dropdown options, I pick Photoshop.
In Photoshop I make my edits, and then I press save.
Once I press save or save as does not matter I get the same result, I get the option to save to the cloud or desktop. No matter what option I pick the photo will not go back to my project. I tried refreshing the page, and nothing is working.
I watched a webinar last week, with Sara Hodge, and in her recording, at the 14-minute mark you will see she is demonstrating how to add a photo from Photoshop into her articulate project following my steps, but I am not successful.

** update, I am noticing the transfer will not work if I eraser something on the photo in Photoshop. If I draw on the photo it will transfer back to Artiucalte without saving it to the desktop or cloud.
Thank you!
Natalie
Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Natalie!
I see you opened a support case, and my teammate Cleo is helping you. Great call on opening a support case! Be sure to give those last suggestions a try and keep us posted if that does the trick!

I appreciate you reaching back out to Cleo as well, Natalie.
Your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.
I deleted the post, Thank you for letting me know.
Hello, I followed Sara Hodge webinar Creating Gif like animations on Storyline 360, and in her recording, at the 14-minute mark she is demonstrating how to add a photo from Photoshop into her articulate project. She uses Photosohop but I don't have it for the moment. Is it possible to use a free tool like GIMP ? Actually, when I select edit in order to open the illustration from content library, Storyline always shut down... I don't have any list that appears to select GIMP. Like if it was impossible for me to do this action. Do you have a clue of what the problem can be ? Thank you for your help regarding this matter.
Hello Aurélie, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊
I appreciate you reaching out and sharing what you are currently experiencing in your software.
To confirm, you're able to:
At this point, you're not being presented with editing programs installed on your computer, but Storyline is closing?
I'm curious if the issue happens in any course you are working on or just this particular one?
Hello Leslie, Thank you so much for your answer. I confirm that I'm able to do 1 and 2. And yes, I am not being presented with editing programme installed on my computer but Storyline is closing...I have tried with a new course and the same issue happens.. But I have a little hope with the repair of my software ! I will let you know as soon as it's done.
I have reinstalled Articulate. It still doesn't work for me. I don't understand what is the issue. If you have any advice, I'll be glad :-)
Hello Storyline Team,
I am a Photoshop user by nature and I am working on creating some Web Based Trainings in Storyline, I recently found this feature in the Media Library. However, when I choose Photoshop, edit my image, save and exit the window. My changes are not being made in Storyline. This would save time from exporting and importing into Storyline. Hopefully someone can help or make these changes in the next update.
Hello Manuel!
I understand that you're exporting images from the Media Library to edit in Photoshop. Any changes you make to the image in Photoshop will not automatically adjust the image that is still in the Media Library. Instead, you'll need to import the edited file back into Storyline 360.
I'd recommend using Replace Picture instead of importing the edited image into the Media Library.
