Export Rise File and Import in StoryLine

May 26, 2017

Hi there. I am currently facing an issue with content being published in Rise as Scorm 1.2 which is not displaying properly in my LMS when using IE. However content published in StoryLine as Scorm 1.2 works fine.

Is it possible to export content from Rise and import into StoryLine that I can then publish as Scorm 1.2?

Any thoughts will be much appreciated.

Kind regards, Angelo.

Hey, Angelo!

You can embed Rise courses into Storyline 360. Just copy the shareable web link for your Rise course and paste it into a web object.

If your course includes a quiz, build that part in Storyline rather than Rise so your LMS can track the results from the Storyline SCORM package.

I hope that helps!

I am new to Rise, so please forgive my ignorance. If Storyline 360 is responsive and you do as Alyssa has explained here, wouldn't it keep the responsiveness of Rise in Storyline? This is how I am thinking I am going to combine the two to incorporate some of the elements that I want to use that I can do in Storyline but limited in Rise.

Hi Elizabeth,

Did you insert the "Share" link as a web object in Storyline? Web objects aren't available to view in preview or while editing the slide, so you'd see it appear as just the link on the slide itself with a grey background. Once you've published it you can see the Rise course inside a Storyline file.

I'm having a similar issue.  I've created my course in Rise, then embedded it as a web object on a Storyline slide, right before my quiz slides.  I've published it, and loaded it into my LMS, however, I have lost ability for the progress tracking (orange circle indicators).  Every time the content is launched in our LMS, the progress is not kept.

I do not know whether I should put the quiz back into rise, and publish the link only, with no reporting, or keep it this way.  When I publish Rise as a SCORM 1.2 or 2004, it will not load into my LMS.

Help?

Hey Jen, I'm happy to help!

First, I want to be sure I understand the functionality of your course. It sounds like you have Rise lesson content, followed by quiz questions. Is that correct?

When you build the entire course in Rise (including the quiz questions), you mentioned you had trouble uploading it to your LMS. What LMS are you using? Have you tried another LMS like SCORM Cloud to see if it uploads there?

I'd be happy to help you test in SCORM Cloud. Simply attach your Rise LMS output to this thread, and I'll do the rest!

Hi Alyssa,

Initially I embedded a Rise course (pubished as a link) as a web object into a Storyline file, because my LMS was not playing nicely with Rise.  Instead, I've now put the final quiz directly into Rise, eliminating the need for Storyline for this project, then tested it in SCORM Cloud.  So far, it's working.  I don't know what the final quiz output will be though.

My LMS is BizLibrary, in case anyone else is having difficulty with compatibility.

I have a question regarding importing RIse into SL360 and functionality. In addition to making the courses available via the share links, we also want to publish them to DVD. The curriculum is for remote Native American communities with Internet connectivity issues. Can I import/embed the exported Rise web file into SL 360 so that I can publish for DVD? Thank you.

Hi Paula,

You sure can, here's a quick Peek at the steps you'll go through.

Once you've published your Storyline course, follow the steps here to provide access to your learners.

It's a few extra steps to go through, as offline viewing of Rise standalone courses is supported in Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Just download a Rise course as a web package, extract the zip file, then launch the index.html file.

Note that embedded web content won't work offline unless you have an active internet connection.

Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge block local playback of Rise courses altogether. You'll just see a blank page in these browsers. To use Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge, you'll need to upload your course to a web server.

We have a similar question. Please help. Here's our situation:

1. We created a Rise File and hosted it on our LMS.

2. We created a Storyline file and inserted the Rise link from the LMS onto a slide as a web object.

Here's our questions:

1. Can the SCORM info from the Rise file be captured and used in the Storyline file?

    a. So the learner can return where they left off?

   b. So we know if the learner completed the Rise portion?

2. Is there a way to make the Storyline file progress to another slide when they are done with the web object?

Ashley Terwilliger-Pollard

Hi Jesica,

1. The Storyline course is what will be tracked within your LMS, and any data in a web object (Rise or otherwise) won't be tracked or able to resume.

2. If you had an estimate of how long it may take them to view the course, you could add in a prompt asking them if they finished based on that time and advance them to the next slide. There isn't a way for Storyline to know when a learner has finished viewing or navigating through a web object.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Hello,

Can I simply use the share link from within Rise so that it doesn't have to be hosted on a shared drive?

Also, I am trying to follow this Tip: When you don’t load the web object automatically, it's helpful to give the placeholder a meaningful image, so learners know what it represents. To do so, right-click the web object placeholder and select Change Picture. Browse to the image you want to use and click Open. If you change your mind about the image you added, right-click it again and select Reset Picture.

I see a Replace Picture option, but not a Chang Picture.  When I try to Replace Picture I get an error "We're sorry, something when wrong with Articulate Storyline and it might close.

Lauren Connelly

Hi Julie!

Unfortunately, it looks like you hit a bug where using the Replace Picture option for a web object causes a Storyline Error. We've logged this issue with our team so we can begin investigating the cause.

However, I did find a workaround that might be what you're looking for. Instead of using a Web Object, you can add an image with a trigger to Open URL when the user clicks the image.

Here's a screen recording where I explain what that trigger would look like in Storyline 360.

Great idea!  Thank you!  I ended up putting the alert on the slide before sharing that a new browser would open when they move on and then put text over the web object to say click next when you are ready to move on.

I just shared added the share link from Rise into the web part.  Do you foresee any issues with linking that way?

I wan concerned with the publishing, extracting and hosting on a server option as that wouldn't work for our mobile users.  The share link from RISE seems smoothly within Review.  Please let me know if there is anything I am missing.

Hello Julie!

It sounds like you're wanting your user to jump to another browser in order to view the Rise course. When they've complete the Rise course, they will return to the previous browser where the Storyline course is.

I don't see any issues with linking the course in a web object! Have you already tested the course on the server? If so, did you run into any snags?

Hi Julie,

Great news! We just released another update for Articulate 360 and included a few important fixes you'll see in the release notes.

The item you'll be interested in is:

Fixed: An error occurred when changing the placeholder picture for a web object.

Just launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button for Storyline 360. Details here.
