hotspot question with multiple answers

Dec 12, 2022

Hello,

I have an image and want the student to click on several sections of the image to get the correct answer. It seems i can only make one hotspot shape the correct one. Is there a way for multiple hotspot shapes to be selected? specifically I want to add 6 hotspots but the student would need to click on the correct 3 to get the answer correct.

thank you!

Hello.  A few things to factor in on this, a couple of questions.

  1. Do you want the student to be able to select and deselect each spot, or click each spot once and it stays chosen/selected?
  2. Do you want the student to select a Submit button to check their choices, or should it check instantaneously?
  3. Do you want each section of the image to show a selected state either by filling in the hotspot area or adding a checkmark?
  4. Also, do you want the mouse cursor to show a hand when hovered over the hot areas?
  5. And last, do you want it to be correct if they select the correct 3 but also have other areas selected in addition to those 3?

Ok.  I used shapes to do this, but you could use hotspots as well.  There are many ways to do this, no right way, just the one that works and makes sense to you.  Try this one out.

  1. Make each shapes color transparent (instead of red/green and remove text) and get rid of the line of the shape (or make transparent) if you use this example, just showing you how it would work.
  2. If boxes don't work, you can change the existing shapes by right-clicking and changing to another built-in shape, OR draw new ones using a freeform shape then add a selected state for each with your checkmark or whatever you want to use to show selection.

Let me know if you have questions.  Good luck! :-)

I think Jeff has a good idea, but it can be implemented with fewer triggers. It turns out that if you are staying on the same slide, and showing layers (as opposed to jumping to other slides, and coming back) states are reliable. Check out the Fewer Triggers slide.

You may not want the cursor to tip off the location of hotspots by changing to a hand. My solution to that is to have it be a hand everywhere, because you can't keep it from changing if you hover over an object with a trigger associated with it.
